Why are men in charge? After years in the male-dominated field of mathematics and in the female-dominated field of art, Eugenia Cheng has heard the question many times. In x + y, Cheng argues that her mathematical specialty — category theory — reveals why. Category theory deals more with context, relationships, and nuanced versions of equality than with intrinsic characteristics. Category theory also emphasizes dimensionality: much as a cube can cast a square or diamond shadow, depending on your perspective, so too do gender politics appear to change with how we examine them. Because society often rewards traits that it associates with males, such as competitiveness, we treat the problems those traits can create as male. But putting competitive women in charge will leave many unjust relationships in place. If we want real change, we need to transform the contexts in which we all exist, and not simply who we think we are.

Eugenia Cheng is always meticulously well-informed, carefully innocent of any ordinary prejudices, and has a knack of finding the oddest way of viewing any topic.

A person’s gender identity is not defined by their body parts but by their inherent sense of self. Surgery or no surgery, everyone deserves respect and recognition for who they are.

You say there are “Only 2 Genders’ ‘. This is a half truth, yes, there are only two genetic genders (ignoring abnormal XYY and birth defects many of which require immediate surgery at birth to prevent life threatening conditions) However, there are 5 other recognised non genetic genders and two extra non-recognised genders.
There are many books and courses available on gender studies. Perhaps you should read up on the more elementary level literature available before trying to tackle these more complex books on the subject. I think there are some primary level and lady bird books on the site you may find helpful.

Bit of a late reply but I wanted to be certain before claiming an untruth. Your comment regarding Republicans is untrue and unjust.
The data refers to Republican STATES, Not republicans. That is a huge differance. It is bad enough when we have individuals such as Tommy and iraquis spouting falsehoods.
Making Gender a “Political” band wagon to stand on is a dangerous road. A road that can end up biting the wrong people.
Gender is NOT a Loony Left policy. It is NOT political it is a persons life choice. There is no Right Wing Nut Jobs vs Loony Left. There are people who simply wish to live their lives WITHOUT prejudice. If you feel other wise. I am sorry. But seriously, don’t become the “Haters”.
If a person politically supports many of the Right Wing policies, It does NOT mean he supports them all. LGBT - is NOT a political Band Wagon. Or do you suggest their are no LGBT Republicans? Quite offensive to call a gay republican anti-LGBT don’t you think?
Just because at the MOMENT the Left Supports LGBT, Do Not expect that to continue once the votes have been counted.

This is the best statement I have read on this site and in many books. I studied Gender Studies for 2 years at University as part of a degree. I wish I had used those words in my exam. I think I may have achieved a far higher mark. Unfortuneatly, at the time I was too full of Anger over the fact my own gender was one of the not recognised in Europe.
I think what you say here is a crucial point that many, including the LBGT community are forgetting that it is this “sense of self” as you say that defines ones gender.
Furthermore because a person may disagrees that certain surguries are carried out, does NOT mean they are anti-LBGT. Some think that age is a factor others the means of funding.
In females (no gender implied) during adolescence, there are some hormonial changes that have yet to occur many of these hormonal changes effect the individuals thought processes and emotional responses being a prevalent concern.
