  The British often pretend to some illusory & misplaced moral superiority over others, even as their own actual history reveals the most appalling enormities, barbarism and bestiality. Oddly enough, they never really remind themselves of this. The phenomenon will not improve under “Brexit” Britain.

  Awe man, you are going to mess up the whole BLM narrative. Now I’m going to have to burn down another car lot to change oppression. Brexit is a beautiful thing. Its the EU that has the “superiority” issues.

  Easier to ask: what does it not have to do with the book? Shed a little light, don’t fear the truth, or, like their own history curriculum: don’t ignore all the manifest & manifold evils of the British Empire (some detailed in the present work) in favour of filling out the time with guff & fluff about Henry VIII.

  Also ignoring their slave trade, and instead concentrating on the abolition of slavery. And focusing on the achievements of the Industrial Revolution, and not mentioning their profits from slavery, which contributed to the funding of the whole enterprise.

  It’s striking how, when one encounters a British person, it becomes bewilderingly apparent how almost totally oblivious they are of their own history. (Just try telling them that they used concentration camps before AND after the Nazis). I learned more about British history - at all levels - than they do in an entire lifetime. But don’t mention the war, Mr Fawlty…

  @roeyrboat BLM is not about slavery, it is about the here and now. BLM supporters come in all shades. Maybe, learn before speaking on subjects you know nothing about. If you have a problem with what Britain did, go after them. BLM was nothing to do with this atrocity.

  The EU has a serious democratic deficit, but Brexit is as near to being a perfect example of a political & economic omnishambles as we’re ever likely to witness. People had the most exotic misconceptions of what the referendum was about, and of what the function of the EU actually was. As we saw all of this unfold, the number of people in my own country who wished to leave the EU became so negligible as to barely register in polling.

  It will take anything from a decade to a generation for Britain to recover from this mess. And possibly even longer for them to be permitted to rejoin what is, after all, the wealthiest trading bloc in history. They may have to settle for second-tier status, like several other countries. Wherever they’re ultimately going, if I were them, I wouldn’t start from here.

  EU successes are always claimed by local politicians; whereas local failures, incompetence & corruption are often imputed to the EU. These are some of the perception problems which lead to prevalent anti-EU feeling.

  Sounds great. Alot of people dont realize there was just as many white slaves. if not more, than black during the pre-Independence and early days of our country. More white people came in as slaves in 1619+ than africans. But not, American is inherently racist to its very core, built into the DNA. Which is absurd. Its always been more about money and thus class, then your race. If you have money and are educated is what matters, not your ethnicity. Blacks and minorities are the fastest growing wealth class. If you look at the richest list, its mostly minorities that getting added. The idea that your race keeps you back in modern civilization is non sense and a scapegoat. So many people think slavery and think blacks, america. Slavery has been going on since the dawn of civilization and probably before. Long before America was ever a dream, the world over had been using slave for thousands for years. Slaves of all ethnicities. enslaved by all ethnicities. Even the slaves that ended up here, were usually first enslaved by their own people in Africa first and sold off to foreign traders. They were lucky to end up in America as opposed to a middle eastern or asian country. Admittedly, thats not saying much, nor is it any justification. But you can thank American/Britain for leading the effort to abolish slavery not just domestically, but abroad. Putting an end to wide spread open and accepted slavery around the world. Sure, it still happens illegally around the world. Slavery is horrible, but it would do people good to learn that it was more than just africans being used as slaves, this country was built on white slaves as well. Pretty sure the 1619 project doesnt mention that there were more white slaves arriving in virginia then african.

  This book is ahistorical propaganda designed to make racist white people feel better about chattel slavery which was imposed on Black and Native people. Whites were indentured servants not chattel. Don’t download this garbage.

  I agree with cheri416! There is a difference between unjustly convicted prisoners, who had their service sold by the ENGLISH state, for a predetermined period and people kidnapped and treated as livestock based only on race. The ENGLISH government continued to send orphans and the children of unwed mothers to Australia, New Zealand and Canada to work as free farm labour into the 1930s. None received compensation or/and an apology of any kind from the ENGLISH Arrogant-ocracy.
