What is a woman? For months, Matt Walsh devoted nearly every waking hour to answering this simple question. Honestly, it’s a question he never thought he’d have to ask.
But all of a sudden, way too many people don’t seem to know the answer. Is a woman a woman just by feeling or acting a particular way? Aren’t gender roles just a “social construct”? Can a woman be “trapped in a man’s body”? Does being a woman mean anything at all?
We used to think that being a woman had something to do with biology, but the nation’s top experts keep assuring us that is definitely not the case. So Matt decided to do what no man (whatever that means) had done before. He sat down with the experts and asked them directly.

Y’know, if someone who specialised in a particular field were to say “It’s complicated, requires an understanding of nuance, and there are a lot of things to take into consideration”, I’m not so sure I’d be eager in my rudimentary understanding of a topic to say “geeze, these experts sure are dumb for not arriving at the same simple answer I did”.

In reality, defining “woman” was over and done with long before you were born Jack. The only thing that has changed is that really stupid people now go to university and think that makes them really clever.

According to the United States Supreme Court (if they can move the law just a bit further in the transgender area), it soon will be easy to precisely define a woman, in the US:
Woman is that class of people who have no US Constitutional right to complete freedom and privacy over medical decisions involving their bodies. (All the rest are male; unless or until a medical decision arises that might confuse us regarding their intentions to live as something other than male. At that point they become female, for the limited purpose of losing their constitutional right to privacy regarding medical decisions involving their bodies. They regain the status of “male” once any such medical issue is resolved and we are no longer confused.)
There! Back to a simple, workable definition for everyone!

But mooose, rather than resolving your 1st issue, your proposed fix would merely open up another area of complex concern, to wit, are unborn children (male or female) human? (Whether they are male/female would be a subcategory question in the present inst.) This would consequently require its own appropriately modulated resolution. So, the apparent fix seems to further defer the current issue.
Also sn000m & mooose appear suspiciously similar.

Anyway, the part, I guess 1.5 hours in, where Mr. Walsh talks to a man that had gone through the surgery and regretted it was amazing. That 5 minutes is what the public needs to see.

Go on Gordon, give us your expert opinion. If it’s that simple, give us your definition of what a woman is.
There’s absolutely no way you’re smart enough to give a definition which doesn’t either exclude some people who you would consider women, or includes some people who you’d consider men.
You’re no Plato, and even he acknowledged the issues with striving for a simple definition for well known things.

The non binary state of gender isn’t a modern invention. Every society, for thousands of years, has had those who didn’t conform to your idea. Some had to stay in the closet, but they were always here. Mulan in Chinese legend. Katoeys in Thailand. Hijra in India. Two-spirit native Americans., etc, etc, etc.

Since I live in the Us and had Children Ill answer the question a woman has a womb. and the two X chromosomes. Even with a sex change the DNA doesn’t change. Identity politics has to stop. you want to look like a woman fine but don’t pretend you are better then us. I don’t have anything against trans people just don’t shove your thought process down my throat and try and force me to think the same. Thats what makes us individuals. If we all thought the same we would be robots who obey everything..

@SarahCon so the moment you get a hysterectomy, you’re no longer a woman. How about women with swyer syndrome, who have all the characteristics and reproductive organs of a woman, but have XY chromosomes. How about the 1 in 5,000 women who are born without a womb.
Your definition of what a woman just excluded millions of people who even by your own standards should count as women.

Point being, “you can’t define what a woman is” is being used as some kind of gotcha. Usually by people who have a rudimentary grasp on things like biology and sociology, who believe they’re better equipped to chime in on the topic than experts who say “it’s actually not so simple”.
So back at you: “you can’t come up with what would be a generally academically accepted definition of what a woman is in a manner which neatly includes all women and excludes all men”

At the risk of sounding dangerously clichéd, we could always deploy a little live & let live. That time-honoured, civilised approach has the added benefit of not requiring a sacrificium intellectus. Reason need not be sacrificed, established general categories remain available to all. Moreover, the intersex phenomenon is not a recent development. Medical exceptions are known.
Globally (est.) 1% of adults identify as neither male nor female; in the US, you have over 1.2 m people identifying as nonbinary/trans. These are not a monolith; they’re all different people, with a diverse range of views on all conceivable subjects.
