Britain didn’t just put the empire back the way it had found it.
In Uncommon Wealth, Kojo Koram traces the tale of how, after the end of the British empire, an interconnected group of well-heeled British intellectuals, politicians, accountants and lawyers offshored their capital, seized assets and saddled debt in former ‘dependencies’. This enabled horrific inequality across the globe, as ruthless capitalists profited and ordinary people across Britain’s former territories in colonial Africa, Asia and the Caribbean were trapped in poverty. However, the reinforcement of capitalist power across the world also ricocheted back home. Now it has left many Britons wondering where their own sovereignty and prosperity has gone….
Decolonisation was not just a trendy buzzword. It was one of the great global changes of the past hundred years, yet Britain - the protagonist in the whole messy drama - has forgotten it was ever even there. A blistering uncovering of the scandal of Britain’s disastrous treatment of independent countries after empire, Uncommon Wealth shows the decisions of decades past are contributing to the forces that are breaking Britain today.

Thankyou VERY much

Baby Caesar can’t stop himself from commenting. Come on, do it. I’m waiting, you pruney fingered dilettante. Say something “profound” to amuse me.

Some fact, some fiction, some opinion.
To blame Britain for all of the current and past issues is a bit lazy. Colonization has been going on since modern man spread out from the African continent so was that Britain’s fault?
Modern colonization was pretty much started by the Portuguese it can be argued as they looked to expand trade with the Dutch Republic, England, France & Spain hot on their heels.
To blame capitalism as being at fault for leaving former colonies trapped in poverty is also not taking the whole into account. One must remember that the average Briton was pretty much treated no
better than the subjects of the colonies.
Whenever one looks at this subject, there are many sides to the story and often valuable infrastructure was abandoned or destroyed in local conflicts as to who should hold power.
“Britain didn’t just put the empire back the way it had found it.”
Does that mean they should have destroyed everything and removed all of the modernization that happened by colonization?

So good to see some perspective, Rodd.

Time to give back the Parthenon Marbles, I think.
They performed their brutal test drive of evil colonialism in Ireland first (destroying Brehon Law & attempting to expunge the Irish language/culture).
That’s 800 yrs, baby.
Hey, anonymous Q guy, how are your demented con theories going? The “Joooze!” still behind everything for ya?

“Time to give back the Parthenon Marbles, I think.” - err, of course yes.
As an anti-imperialist (i.e. anti-Zionist also, as Zionism is colonialism) you can’t arrive at any other conclusion.
All the stolen artefacts need returning.All.

…uh, what? You didn’t understand that either? That one was easy, tbh.
If you’ve ever heard of the Parthenon Marbles, you certainly only know them by their Brutish imperial name. Just about the most famous & symbolic artistic steal in Brutish history.
A consistent anti-imperialist would be opposed to the Jewish people’s ancient homeland being brutally invaded & occupied by the Arabs, of course. Moreover, they would wish to see the reversal of all of that brutal imperialism - all across the Middle East & North Africa. Do you begin to see?

The usual woke drivel from the amusingly misnamed “Caesar” who tends to do the woke thing and forget the antics of certain other cultures subjurgating and genocides
December 22nd, 2022
Yeah, amusing. You must’ve missed (or conveniently forgot?) the bits there where I condemned all evil imperialism - British, Arab, or whomsoever else.
Just as I have condemned all genocide - committed by the Brits, Chinese, Russians, Japanese, Americans, Arabs, Cambodians, Germans, socialists/national socialists/Marxists/fascists - your lot, their lot, always a distinction without a difference.
December 22nd, 2022
Yet oddly forgets to condemn Zionist imperialism….very consistent.

And your condemnation of the Jewish people’s ancient homeland being brutally invaded & occupied by the Arabs? Was that imperialism okay then? Very consistent…
