I feel bad for actual American conservatives. The entire movement has been hijacked by this paranoid, fascist, delusional Trump movement who have decided they hate regular conservatives just as much as they hate liberals. Big media gave Trump a free megaphone when he was campaigning in 2015/6. That’s why he won. And when he was president, they put his every stupid tweet on the front page, exactly as he wanted.
While his base loved his politics of grievance and hate, turns out more were repelled, and even more so when trump’s answer to thousands dying every day from Covid was to complain that they shouldn’t be testing so much.
He won in 2016 because he was a champion of hate. And he lost in 2020 because more people hated him.
Probably he would have won in 2020 regardless, if he hadn’t murdered a half million Americans. That’s the kind of thing that is hard to ignore.
