Published since September 1843 to take part in “a severe contest between intelligence, which presses forward, and an unworthy, timid ignorance obstructing our progress.”
The Economist is a global weekly magazine written for those who share an uncommon interest in being well and broadly informed. Each issue explores the close links between domestic and international issues, business, politics, finance, current affairs, science, technology and the arts.
“It is not only The Economist’s name that people find baffling. Here are some other common questions.
First, why does it call itself a newspaper? Even when The Economist incorporated the Bankers’ Gazette and Railway Monitor from 1845 to 1932, it also described itself as “a political, literary and general newspaper”.
It still does so because, in addition to offering analysis and opinion, it tries in each issue to cover the main events—business and political—of the week. It goes to press on Thursdays and, printed simultaneously in six countries, is available in most of the world’s main cities the following day or soon after. Readers everywhere get the same editorial matter. The advertisements differ. The running order of the sections, and sometimes the cover, also differ. But the words are the same, except that each week readers in Britain get a few extra pages devoted to British news.
Why is it anonymous? Many hands write The Economist, but it speaks with a collective voice. Leaders are discussed, often disputed, each week in meetings that are open to all members of the editorial staff. Journalists often co-operate on articles. And some articles are heavily edited. The main reason for anonymity, however, is a belief that what is written is more important than who writes it. As Geoffrey Crowther, editor from 1938 to 1956, put it, anonymity keeps the editor “not the master but the servant of something far greater than himself. You can call that ancestor-worship if you wish, but it gives to the paper an astonishing momentum of thought and principle.”

Thanks for uploading this book. Really appreciate it.
⭐⭐⭐👉I want to share this info with people coming over here to download stuff.
On 19 nov 23 a book called ‘on palestine’ by naom Chomsky and pappe was uploaded on the site and I wanted to download it, after a few hours when i came back to download it, i found that it was removed.
There is this person with the user name of ‘freepalestine’ some of his uploads that gave the point of view of Palestine have been removed as well.
I know this is a piracy site and you can not point fingers at people for doing something, but I wanted to point this out.
I want folks who come here to check it for themselves and know that this is happening.

Thank you, Goomer:)

this magazine has become a left-wing rag. It’s as useful as Washington Post…

Thanks Goomer!
@Mastram
I doubt there is anything nefarious, the uploader may have removed this or a moderator may have since that book has already been uploaded and re-upped several times. Here is another link to get it: https://audiobookbay.lu/abss/yon-palestine-noam-chomsky-and-ilan-pappe/
@bistuit1
I’ve read/listened to the Economist for years, it is as consistently centrist / slightly progressive (depending on topic) as it ever was. I suspect your issue has more to do with the average right-wing viewpoints having skewed far from center in recent years. “Mainstream” conservatives have only themselves to blame if they choose to radicalize to the point where they cannot stomach unbiased journalism…
November 24th, 2023
Yeah, it’s fairly solidly centrist. Some excellent journalism to be had. In the final analysis, you have to risk it, or biscuit.

@Mastram
The reason that FreePalastine’s books were removed is that they failed to adhere to the rules of the site. Not due to content. But that they were Robot/Read.
The site does not host, robot read texts. The reason is not political, but to my knowledge, for safety and quality reasons.
Hope this information helps.

@tokitorio, I agree with your views. I started my subscription with the Economist in 1985/6. My subscription was due to the fact of the magazine’s reputation for un-bias reporting. I have not seen a change in their methodology. Only a change in what is considered a left or right wing opinion.
Perhaps it is this antiquated system of classification that is the issue. Maybe classification based upon the scriptures is no longer ideal in today’s educated society and the ideals of Matthew 12:30, Luke 9:50; and Mark 9:40 are not as diametrically opposed as one believes.
Mayhap, One can believe in one aspect but belong to another group. Perish the thought! A reporter or person my have beliefs in both camps.
