I really enjoyed the book, but the lower quality recording available previously wasn’t ideal. I’m going to be re-listening to this in the near-future.
This was the first book in McDevitt’s Alex Benedict series that I tried, and I thought it was an excellent starting point despite being #3 in the series - it’s a fully self-contained story. There’s something about the narrator that just fits Chase Kolpath (point-of-view character in the novel) perfectly.
This was such an appealing SF novel. It harks back to a golden age sensibility, and it’s a very light novel in that it contains almost no crazy action or violent conflict. Instead, it’s a refreshing and involving archaeological/anthropological space mystery. At first, the detection is more conventional; later, it becomes increasingly astronomical in nature (the part I liked best).
