Forget the terrible remake with Colin Farrell. This is a novelization of the movie Arnold made famous. There’s more interesting stuff than was in the film, as well as all the great action you loved from the movie.
The year is 2089. The place is Earth. Douglas Quail, haunted by a recurring nightmare of a beautiful woman and a life on Mars, doesn’t remember ever having been to Mars. In hopes of uncovering the mystery, he goes to Rekall, a company specializing in implanted memories. Unfortunately, the treatment uncovers a deadly secret.

I thought this was a mistake at first, I never associated Piers Anthony with this one.

He was just responsible for the novelization. I don’t believe he actually wrote the script, and the story was based on a Philip K. Dick short.

Book based on a script based on
“We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick, available

Yes, but this story features 100% more Arnie nostalgia and 100% less moral quandaries about whether erasing one’s emotions is good or bad…
…Philip K. Dick was a great writer, but the man really didn’t have a chill bone in his body. I don’t think he ever wrote a single light story in his life.

“Doctor Bloodmoney” was pretty funny, as I recall from reading it in the 60s, despite being a post-nuclear war story. He did a lot of black absurdist humour.
Anyway, this version may have its virtues, but that Dick wasn’t even acknowledged on the cover is pretty sleazy. I guess because he was already dead, and was not a name to conjure with; though he is now much more recognised by the mainstream.
