You will be disappointed if you are expecting a written version of the 1944 movie. Very little of it is the same. Director Howard Hawks told his friend Hemingway he could take this book that he considered the worst book Hemingway had ever written, “a piece of junk”, and make it a successful movie. He did, with help of William Faulkner, a few other screenwriters and a scared 18-year old actress named Lauren Bacall.

Great! Thanks once again. I’m surprised there isn’t more Hemingway on ABB. When I was first getting into reading during my teenaage years, he was always impossible to get at the second hand book stores. The libraries always had these 40yr old copies of the books I wanted that would have lipstick or caramel stains or whatever. haha. Always grossed me out.
