A powerful investigation of Bill Gates and the Gates Foundation, showing how he uses philanthropy to exercise enormous political power without accountability
Through his vaunted philanthropy, Bill Gates transformed himself from a tech villain into one of the most admired people on the planet. Even as divorce proceedings and allegations of misconduct have recently tarnished his public image, the beneficence of the Gates Foundation, celebrated for spending billions to save lives around the globe, is taken as a given. But as Tim Schwab shows in this fearless investigation, Gates is still exactly who he was at Microsoft: a bully and monopolist, convinced of his own righteousness and intent on imposing his ideas, his solutions, and his leadership on everyone else. At the core, he is not a selfless philanthropist but a power broker, a clever engineer who has innovated a way to turn extreme wealth into immense political influence—and who has made us believe we should applaud his acquisition of power, not challenge it.
Piercing the blinding halo that has for too long shielded the world’s most powerful (and most secretive) charitable organization from public scrutiny, The Bill Gates Problem shows how Gates’s billions have purchased a stunning level of control over public policy, private markets, scientific research, and the news media. Whether he is pushing new educational standards in America, health reforms in India, global vaccine policy during the pandemic, or Western industrialized agriculture throughout Africa, Gates’s heady social experimentation has shown itself to be not only undemocratic, but also ineffective. In many places, Bill Gates is hurting the very people he intends to help.
No less than dark-money campaign contributions or big-business political lobbying, Bill Gates’s philanthropic empire needs to be seen as a problem of money in politics. It is a dangerous model of unconstrained power that threatens democracy and demands our attention.
*Finally someone brave enough wrote the book that’s long overdue.

Some billionaires like big boats, some like private islands stocked with nubile teens, some like supporting the most heinous beings on the planet for public office and some just like being Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Whaddaya gonna do?

Unelected, uneducated. The only reason he gets attention is because he has paid for it.
Why anyone would take medical advice from someone who has publicly stated his goal is to reduce the global population is beyond me.
Finally a decent book from someone by the name of Schwab.

Damn those rich do-gooders, let the poor and underprivileged fend for themselves. And taxation is wrong, too. And minimum wages. Don’t let me start on right to hit lazy underlings!

The original blurb for this book contained the tagline:
‘why should the super-rich be able to transform their wealth into political power, and just how far can they go?’
And this is a very valid question.
But if you ask it about Donald Trump, a man will come around to your house with a hammer, and fracture your skull.

Looks like WangLaoshi2020 is another loser who’s ripping off content on Mobilism and pretending it’s his own. Well, at least you bother to seed it, unlike others on this whole Marxist fairytale of a website.

There’s a difference between investigating and criticising a man for the way his business dealings manipulate the poor for his own personal power trip, and just believing some lunatic theory that he’s trying to inject everyone with microchips.
It’s long been understood in nonprofit circles that the major aim of the Gates Foundation is to buy him the Nobel Peace Prize.

A man on a audiobook piracy website unironically complains about it being a “Marxist fairytale” and isn’t immediately embarrassed into deleting himself from reality. “True rebels” play by the rules, right? Jesus Christ

@truerebel
You are a truly sad and desperate individual aren’t you. I hope you find some happiness in life.
November 19th, 2023
I don’t remember Jesus Christ saying that.
And I’m not sad, I’m epic.

Sounds like he’s doing what every super rich capitalist has done in American history. This is news?

truerebel’s comment provides additional anecdotal support for my hypothesis that most people who falsely invoke marx’s name in online discussions won’t occupy themselves in trying to learn the meaning of the words they use.
while the meaning of words evolves over time, ‘marx’ (along with ‘woke’) have been so hollowed out in recent discouse that they lack anything that is actually signified. the act of speaking has been reduced to mere signaling—a way to deploy buzzwords and adopt postures that signify allegiance to political factions, rather than to engage in meaningful communication.
this uninformed behavior thrives on provoking responses from others, which, for some individuals, equates to attaining a form of success.

is there an expose about the Koch brothers?
They seem much more evil…
