For too long the Religious Right has masqueraded as a social movement preoccupied with a number of cultural issues, such as abortion and same-sex marriage. The religious right has NO power in america. Can you name one issue they have won on? Maybe they can nibble around the edges of abortion but it is in no danger.

The Power Worshippers …. what a great name for a book. However, those that worship power the most are those that spend all their time trying to sway the masses that socialism/communism is a great social leveller.
It is of course - it destroys the middle classes and forces everyone except the ruling elite down into the same squalid level.
While religion has been the source of many conflicts over the years and still is, this author has made a career of attacking religion and seems to have the opinion that if you are a believer you are not allowed to be in any position of authority. Kind of reminds me of the propaganda writers Goebells employed in the 30’s.

The constitution made a huge mistake by guaranteeing freedom of religion. Religion needs to be eliminated in all its forms. People who believe in myth and superstition have no business holding power in this or any other country. Just grabbed the E-book and this looks pretty boring. You’re probably better off with Voddie Baucham’s “Fault Lines: The Social Justice Movement and Evangelicalism’s Looming Catastrophe” if you want to know what’s really going on inside American churches.
As for American Christians being “nationalist” - why would they even bother when everyone knows that God is English?

It’s a good question. If you are really interested, start a topic on the forum, where we may have the actual two-way conversation.

To paraphrase your statement:

There are many left-leaning political books on the market. These days many, if not most of them, try to convince readers that:
(i) America as founded is bad, and has to be dismantled,
(ii) Capitalism is bad and oppressive, and must be discarded,
(iii) Socialism-communism is good and liberating, and promising way forward (or some mixture and variations thereof)
The trouble is that all the above statements are patently false (supported by mountains of evidence to the contrary). So, in order to get somewhere, the authors can only rely on Goebbels/Alinsky techniques, rules and tactics. In other words, the more they scream about it from the rooftops, the better their chances of success (so they can convince or strengthen beliefs of many left-leaning and undecided readers).
If you look closely, the left are always trying to sell you some fairytale, like PROGRESS or UTOPIA or FLYING UNICORNS, something truly wonderful, just not seen anywhere before. Ask them “Where’s the omelette?” (referring to countries where socialism has been tried, and failed miserably), and suddenly you are enemy number one, simply because you dared to question their quasi-religious beliefs.
So, when I see a left-leaning political book, peddling one or another patently false theme or statement, or some mixture of them — it is unlikely I will bother to read it in its entirety. And yes, I can still say a word or two about it in comments, because the probability of me being fundamentally right about it is reasonably high.

Nobody is encouraging or wanting anybody to go back in time and redirect a dead form of government that was proven not to work. Having the rich pay their fare share of taxes and investing in your future by educating your children, social security and providing basic health care is not communism or socialism it’s basic human decency.

Just because you can legalize wealth re-distribution from higher to lower income workers or classes, it does not automatically make it “fair” (or “share”, for that matter). Those making more money did not steal it, they did it by inventing and producing and selling goods and services to those who need it, playing by the rules of free society - it does not automatically make them bad guys. And those recipients of the “fair share” did not do anything to earn it, they just receive it, pretending that somehow it’s ok, right and proper thing to do — it does not automatically make them good guys either. However, it’s hard not to notice that the latter frequently choose to treat the former as if they were criminals, while reserving moral high ground for themselves and talking incessantly about “decency”.

For those of you who are concerned about the book, give it a listen.
“Christian” nationalism isn’t actually Christian. It uses the name to fool people. This book also isn’t “woke” in the slightest. If anything, it’s fairly conservative.

Heard Katherine’s interview with Sam Harris yesterday and searched for her new book (which led me to this one instead).
