The latest installment in the New York Times bestselling Politically Incorrect Guide series expands on the hugely successful Politically Incorrect Guide to American History. Far from being the backwater of prejudice and ignorance that the liberal media would have you believe, the South has always been the center of American culture. From the founding fathers-Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and many others-to the frontiersmen who tamed the West, to the country music and NASCAR-loving, Bible-thumping heart of “red state” America, the South is the quintessence of what’s original, unique, and most-loved about American culture. And with its emphasis on traditional values, family, faith, military service, good manners, small government, and independent-minded people, the South should certainly rise again.

Racists. Period. The Civil War did not end until Brown vs.The Board of Education. And then some.

Randy Newman has a song about the Northern treatment of minorities, as against the South. The key verse begins: “Yes, he’s free to be put in a cage” and gives a list of Northern ghettoes. It’s fairly all-inclusive. “We’re rednecks” he sings. We. As savage as Swift.
There’s something awfully convenient & self-serving about writing off an entire region & people. They can bear all the sins; they are flawed, but not us. They. It used to be called scapegoating. It could still be termed racist.
A chap from the olden days said something useful: “Satire is a sort of glass wherein beholders do generally discover everybody’s face but their own; which is the chief reason for that kind reception it meets with in the world, and that so very few are offended with it.”

@caesar963 I’m not “Writing off” an entire region or people. I’m writing off an idea.

But the book is about the South - that’s a region and a people. We can’t say “Racists. Period.” The problem exists everywhere. It continues to exist everywhere long after Brown v. Board of Education. One of the presidential candidates happens to have a very poor record regarding the consequences of the Brown ruling.
The idea is that wherever you fetch up in the world, people have a problem with perceived difference. Few can point the finger, when everyone has this design flaw.

“Far from being the backwater of prejudice and ignorance that the liberal media would have you believe, the South has always been the center of American culture.”
– It’s quite possible to be both at the same time. Plenty of societies have aristocrats and peasants, whether divided by race or caste or just wealth.

Old money, new money & no money. Still people, though.
The locus classicus is always Wonder & McCartney:
“… We all know that people are the same wherever you go
There is good and bad in ev’ryone
We learn to live, when we learn to give
Each other what we need to survive, together alive…”
Hey, ralph.

Some of you Yankees have no damn idea what you’re talking about. You blather on about Southern racism and seem to think the North was never racist toward blacks. Nonsense. You numbnuts need to read the liberal socialist professor James Loewen’s book “Sundown Towns”, which proliferated mainly in the North.

@mklangelo I’ve lived in the south my entire life and I’ve met maybe two racists in that whole time. Grow up.
