the true meaning? easy = pagan solstice celebration - In the north, winter solstice, the longest night - People pray for Sun to come - In the south, the longest day, people celebrate the Sun. After these events, religion took advantage from those celebrations to input moral meaning,even magical meaning things like God,angels, and other stuff. Some people tried to connect with the meaning to nursuring love, to remember that human beings are nice after all. Anyway, but at the end of the day it is all about the solstice.

That’s very confused. The true meaning of the pagan solstice celebration is - a celebration of the solstice. Uncontroversial. Christmas has a different, discrete meaning. It celebrates the birth of Christ (we don’t have the exact date), and, as George Lucas might have it, a new hope.
It was new, and the point was to relate it to what people knew. I wouldn’t say that people are nice or intrinsically good. People have the potential to be good (& often are) but it can easily go either way. The meaning is to recall that potential for virtue & greatness.
