Imagine you’re circling a crowded parking lot. Just as you spot a space, another driver races ahead and takes it.
In a world of road rage, domestic violence, and professionally angry TV and radio commentators, your likely response is anger, even fury. Now imagine that instead of another driver, a cow has lumbered into that parking space and settled down. Your anger dissolves into bemusement. What has changed? Not just the occupant of the space but your perspective on the situation.
We’re society swimming in anger, always about to snap. Using simple, understandable Buddhist principles, Scheff and Edmiston explain how to replace anger with happiness. They introduce the four kinds of demands that most commonly underlie anger (Important and Reasonable, Reasonable but Unimportant, Irrational, and Impossible), then show how to identify our real unmet demands, dissolve our anger, and change what happens when our buttons are pushed.
We learn to laugh at ourselves, a powerful early step, and realize that others don’t make us angry. Only we can make ourselves angry.
“Publishers Weekly…“Using Zen parables coupled with rational, straightforward advice and exercises, the authors bestow instruments for success. With first-rate narration by Bill Mendieta, Cow is not only a rational look at an irrational emotion but also a good introduction to Buddhist principles. Recommended for fans of Anh Huong Nguyen’s Walking Meditation”
‘The authors apply Western language and thinking to the Zen teaching that anger is not good for us. …. Narrator Bill Mendieta brings enormous talent to this recording. However, the emotional overtones and various accents he applies will be more effective when he is able to present them in a way that sounds more natural.”

Marijuana is the best cure for anger not silly head games.

I would not be angry if another motorist took a parking space before me. I would certainly be angry if a cow took a parking space. Cows should not be in parking lots. This book appears to have been written from an illogical starting point.

the above comments show why the human race is in trouble . To be able to use such skills in this book and others similar you need to be able to realize it is possible to observe the way you think and react and as a result become aware that much of what comes out of our mouths and indeed from the thought factory (which pumps out a great deal of nonsense 24hrs a day) is simply pre programmed and habitual . The trouble is most folk think their views/ideas/thoughts etc are chosen by themselves , wise and to be defended at all costs . The opposite is true in fact but realizing this is just too much for most who are controlled by their ego’s and blind to what is really going on . Das but true I am afraid.
