———-
Mired in greed and corruption, tangled in bureaucracy, the Galactic Republic is crumbling. In the outlying systems, where the Trade Federation maintains a stranglehold on shipping routes, tensions are boiling over—while back in the comfort of Coruscant, the hub of civilized space and seat of Republic government, few senators seem inclined to investigate the problem. And those who suspect Supreme Chancellor Valorum of having a hand in the machinations are baffled—especially when Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi foil an assassination attempt on the Chancellor.
With the crisis escalating, Valorum calls for an emergency trade summit. As Humans and aliens gather, conspiracies sealed with large sums of money run rampant, and no one is entirely above suspicion. But the greatest threat of all remains unknown to everyone except three members of the Trade Federation who have entered into a shadowy alliance with a dark overlord. While the trio will be content with more money and fewer problems, Darth Sidious has grander, far more terrifying plans.

—-FLAC FAQ—-
- What is a FLAC?
FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec, an audio format similar to MP3, but lossless, meaning that audio is compressed in FLAC without any loss in quality. This is similar to how Zip works, except with FLAC you will get much better compression because it is designed specifically for audio, and you can play back compressed FLAC files in your favorite player just like you would an MP3 file.
- Why use FLAC instead of other codecs that compress more?
For some people the difference in filesize is usually far outweighed by FLAC’s advantages: open patent free codec, portable open source (BSD) reference implementation, documented API, multi-platform support, hardware support, multi-channel support, etc. Improving FLAC to get a little more compression is not worth making it more complex and more compute-intensive to decode, and hence, less likely to be supported in hardware.
- Audible has this audiobook available at 64kbps, 22.5kHz, isn’t it overkill to convert the file to a FLAC?
My FLAC rips are from CDs, not MP3 CDs, genuine uncompressed audio, FLAC allows me to keep the lossless audio quality of a CD without the larger file sizes of a WAV file or ISO. For the record, I do not use audible or MP3 CDs as a source for audiobooks. All of my audiobooks are from CD sources.
- Your FLAC audiobooks are too large! Why would you upload an audiobook in this format?
I know that for some folks, it’s an inconvenience due to bandwidth limitations and data caps, however there are already other audiobooks available in a smaller file size. Unless explicitly stated otherwise,my audibook uploads are for those that miss the audio quality of books on CD with the convenience of an Audible download.
- Your files have colons in their file name, how? Why? What OS are you on?
I’m running Windows 10, I’m using an ASCII character that looks like a colon. I do this because I think it looks nice and organized, if you don’t like it, you can change the file name after you’ve downloaded it.

Gonna have to question why you upscale from a lossy to a lossless, your adding a significant amount of bloat to the files.
Your also slowly sucking the download limit for those with download limits. Are you even aware that the majority of those in the US have a download limit?

To answer your question, I’m not up-scaling anything with my FLAC uploads, I’m taking lossless rips from a lossless CDs. I do these rips for my own personal library and upload them to share my hard work to save other audiophiles the trouble of hunting down, sometimes very rare, CD audiobooks (that aren’t MP3 CDs). Normally, the audiobooks I upload are already available in a lossy format, but after doing some searching, I couldn’t find this book available in any other format, so I have compressed this to a relatively high quality MP3 for you here

Hopefully that won’t be too brutal to your data cap. I don’t typically do lossy uploads (because they typically are already well seeded and available), but I recognize this as a special case scenario where there isn’t already a lossy format available.
If anyone does find that the mp3 I just uploaded is in face a duplicate, just let me know and I’ll remove it to avoid clutter.

If your pulling from a CD rip,I’ll say I am sorry for jumping to conclusions.

They don’t list a buy CD option and the amazon page only lists audiotapes as an option for physical media. Considering that this is a 10+ year old book, the audio CD is likely out of print I take it.

Yeah, most audiobooks on CDs go out of print very quickly, so when I find them I try to buy them up (when they’re not stupid expensive). I just recently found a stack of Star Wars audiobooks at a thrift store and I’m working my way through them.
These are the cloak of deception CDs: https://i.imgur.com/JlPfHZo.jpg (5 discs total)
You can check the Star Wars wiki for the CD release here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cloak_of_Deception
It released alongside the Cassette audiobook in 2001. The fact that these are so difficult to find in the wild is the reason I rip them and upload them here. It’s, in part, a preservation project, but mostly it’s because I love the CD quality audiobooks. This one is nice too because it has music and sound effects included.

Thanks for the non-lossy options pyrometheous. I am like that with my music audio trading. Will take mp3 but prefer flac or wav. Any item that becomes available non-lossy is a total bonus. That thrift store find sounds AMAZING!!!! I am really looking forward to seeing what you scored! Thanks for making this option available.

@glorious times
Yeah, I’m pretty excited about it. Some discs (mostly the older ones) are in really rough shape, so the ripping process has been slow but steady. Currently working on ‘Star Wars: Aftermath’, so keep an eye out :-)

I dig that fact that you visit random shops finding things like this (or that crazy 14 disc ver of IT)… I don’t personally want my audiobooks taking up that much space but all the music i grab is flac if available. Sounds much crispier thumpin outta the system in my truck.
