With Bolshevism triumphant in Russia and public discontent shaking the United States, conservatives at every level of government and business created a network dedicated to sweeping away the “spider web” of radicalism they saw threatening the nation.
In this groundbreaking study, Nick Fischer shines a light on right-wing activities during the interwar period. Conservatives, eager to dispel communism’s appeal to the working class, railed against a supposed Soviet-directed conspiracy composed of socialists, trade unions, peace and civil liberties groups, feminists, liberals, aliens, and Jews. Their rhetoric and power made for devastating weapons in their systematic war for control of the country against progressive causes. But, as Fischer shows, the term “spider web” far more accurately described the anticommunist movement than it did the makeup and operations of international communism. Fischer details how anticommunist myths and propaganda influenced mainstream politics in America, and how its ongoing efforts paved the way for the McCarthyite Fifties - and augured the conservative backlash that would one day transform American politics.

Wow, I rarely find this sort of academic press book here, filling in blind spot in U.S. political & intellectual history. And on audiobook! (Damn, where you when I was in a grad school, trying to read about one history book each day of the school year?!)

So when the “Parties Switched” did the Anti-Communist McCarthy types become Democrats? and did the FDR New Deal Dems become Republicans?
or Did the Progressives completely make up the entire idea of the parties switching?
If the Parties Really switched Joseph McCarthy would’ve became a Democrat and FDR would’ve been a republican?
Did the racist socialist progressives who wanted to use eugenics to exterminate black people from the united states switch too? People like woodrow wilson, Edward Mandelhouse, Margaret Sanger were some of the most vile racists of all time. The progressives were pretty nasty people. Go read some early progressive literature, they all praised Mussolini and Hitler. FDR even sent people to Mussolini’s Italy and they came back totally in love with Fascism.
I love the fact I can honestly say I disagree with EVERY aspect of Fascism. not just some of the aspects of it, but ALL OF THEM. Big Government is horrible and evil. Big Government ideologies like Progressivism, Fascism, Communism, International Socialism of the Soviets, and National Hitlerian Socialism from Germany have killed over 200 million INNOCENT people.
If you are a progressive, how do you justify supporting many of the aspects of Fascism and Nazism ? I can’t imagine supporting any of the Big Government policies of the Fascists, National or International Socialists. Even groups like Antifa, who call themselves anti-fascist, if you seperate the word Fascism from the discussion and just list policies, they actually agree with MOST of the policies of fascism. It’s the same reason why people can read a hitler quotes at left wing rallies and people cheer, but if you were to read hitler quotes at a conservative rally, you would literally be booed off the stage.
Again, I am PROUD that as a small government conservative, I can honestly say I OPPOSE EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF FASCISM. Progressives you CANNOT say the same thing…..
