Many Greeks thought that true love was only possible or valid betw equals. They esteemed philia above eros. Lady persons were not really regarded as being on an equal footing.
Elite culture is the main focus here, of course.
Wives were often made to appear more masculine in order to enhance attraction.
Spartan youths frequently had their primary relations with other boys. They forced their new brides to shave their heads to appear more masculine before having sex, to appear more like those previous partners. Spartan women would wear men’s clothing & have their heads shaved on their wedding days in order for their husbands to transition from same-sex to hetero dynamics.
Men would sneak into their wives’ homes in order to consummate the marriage. This was thought to increase the sexual desire between husband & wife. The bride would be laid in bed with a man’s cloak and sandals in the dark. Her new spouse would then sneak into her room during the night and capture her. It was a ritualised drag act, essentially.

yep I remember reading about a Symposium talk where 3 guys talked about what is the best sex relationship between humans could be and they took a statue as an example for every one to present their each point of view and if I remember the statue was a naked male…
