The Wheatstone pond has acquired a dark and chilling atmosphere, a vile odour which hangs around it’s waters. It was once an Edwardian boating lake, but now is deserted and forgotten. Then, after a tragic suicide, the pond is drained, and some very disturbing objects are found in the mud. The play opens with the funeral of a good friend of Jeff Morgan who’s death has left him with bad dreams and a temporary loss of memory.

In Westall’s words, “there is a freedom in ghostliness. You break the surface of life and let the underside come out. If even life is a flat plane, the ghastliness gives depth and height. It’s a new dimension”.
