Flyin’ cars - it’s Tomorrow’s World all over again!
Michio doesn’t seem to be going in for very much negativity about the future; no killer robots or predator fellas in the mix.

…I think Michio is hovering above that pressing issue in his Buck Rogers automobile. If the present is difficult (& it’s always difficult) many people either escape into reflections on the past, or zap into contemplation of the imaginary future, in order to seek solace/refuge. Looking at GW & Putin, the author seems to have decided that the Jetsons might be more congenial company.

Michio Kaku seems to live in a different world to the vast majority of people. Talking about robots and saying they won’t become our secretary or maid. How disappointing is that! In the real world only a small percentage of people have a secretary or maid. Most people are struggling to put a roof over their head and pay the rent or mortgage. The chances of people aged 25 to 34 years of age ever owning a home has declined by around 40% in the last few decades.
By the 3hours 30 minute mark, there’s no mention of the vast number of people who may be put out of work in the near future by “clever robots”.
The author says the predictions of the 60’s and 70’s, that cities would become ghost towns, were wrong. That might have been true in 2011 when the book was published, but all it took was a pandemic to make it true 9 years later. And the benefits of working from home far exceed those of working in a city, so a large percentage of people still prefer working from home.
The same is true for education. A teacher can more easily control a class of young students that are in an online class room than students in a real class room. All the teacher has to do is press a button and any disruptive student is immediately silenced and unable to cause further distraction to fellow students. I know some teachers who would love to have have that capability.
Michio Kaku needs to remove his rose tinted glasses and get out in the real world.
