Very good audiobook. Thank you.

This book is more political, or heavily politicized leaning left, than “pure wonderful sci-fi” everybody and his dog pretends it to be. The king-author is naked, and it takes singing praises choruses all around to keep the pretense of clothes, to maintain the facade and charade, to some extent anyway.
What we have here in a nutshell: climate alarmism writ large, harsh measures required right now and otherwise we will all die, making everything and anything justifiable and permissible, denigrating and bashing all America and American, while grovelling and tail-wagging before China and Russia (apparently, the left never met a tyrant they did not like), messing with and redefining traditional morality, thinly veiling it with clownish self-deprecating demeanor (to paraphrase the author, while keeping the exact meaning “to get important things done one must dispense with the traditional morality, period!”, it reminds me another infamous mantra of the Left “to make an omelette one must break a few eggs!”), and buried somewhere deep underneath of it all a semi-decent sci-fi story for mid-schoolers, almost unrecognizable under many layers of political brainwashing, heavy exaggerations, creative borrowings, unrestrained wild fantasy leaps and jumps and inconsistencies.
Having radio (all spacecrafts do), and not bothering even to try something resembling a first contact protocol, sending back and forth physical objects in a jar instead? … borrowing from (a spider alien) and rewarding back his sci-fi author buddy (adrian-adrian-adrian ad nauseam)? … creatively borrowing “grand music language” idea from Spielberg’s first contact movie?
All of it lumped together, I guess it’s designed to provoke a wow-effect from enthusiastic left-leaning readers, also no doubt to be televised, to make it to a Hollywood movie. It didn’t work quite like that on me though.
They say “Half a loaf of bread is better than none” — juxtaposed against great sci-fi books, I never imagined it may come to this level of pitiful crumbles, pretending to be bread, to this kind of dry desert pretending to be an oasis (ditto to this surreal amounts of false praise “bread, wonderful bread!” and “water, wonderful water!”).

Correction: crumbles —> [bread] crumbs

alnilam have you thought about contacting the author and requesting a book written to your needs and wants ?
June 1st, 2021
Interesting book. Thanks for sharing zaphoid_b. alnilam, what ‘a unique and interesting ploticised perspective’ you have on this book. :-)
June 1st, 2021
alnilam. Ever thought about actually reviewing the book rather than politicizing this comment area from your pulpit?
June 1st, 2021
I am not interested in SciFi books, but thought i would give this a go as I had enjoyed The Martian. I really loved it and it had me thinking for some time after about the characters involved.
What I got out of this, is that if we as a civilization overcome our differences and prejudices, whether they be concerning our fellow human or something else and work together, we can overcome the many challenges we face. Personally I think that is something worth believing in
I would like to thank the uploader and all the commenters for their input.

I’m not sure what makes you think that full book review may somehow weaken my argument, and not to the contrary, just strengthen it.
In other words, what can possibly make this blatant in your face leftist propaganda, thinly disguised as science fiction, somehow look better than it really is.
But, since you asked so nicely, for your benefit I will briefly review one small, but significant episode:

Alnilam,
I suggest you read books praising Trump and right wing, 2nd Amendment conspiracy theories. When done, don’t share your views with those of us who can actually think for ourselves. Not necessary and not wanted.
June 1st, 2021
@kant60
> don’t share your views with those of us who can actually think for ourselves. Not necessary and not wanted.
I can say the same thing about your views at any time you express them, but somehow I manage to restrain myself from doing that. Just of curiosity, what exactly makes you an arbiter, or the judge and the jury of what people can, and cannot say in comments, as long as they do not violate the forum rules? You claim you think for yourself, and I’m glad you do — anything else?
June 2nd, 2021
It worries me that people like alnilam get offended by the very idea that problems could come up that require cooperation. That they get offended by a fictional story that their ideology can’t deal with. How can we make any progress in a world that is full of people like that?
Anyways, it’s a good book.

> It worries me that people like alnilam get offended by the very idea that problems could come up that require cooperation.
I’m not offended by anything, it is not true. When it comes to “cooperation”, it’s always some teeny-weeny details that matter, like “voluntary” or “by force”.
> How can we make any progress in a world that is full of people like that?
This cuts closer to what I’m talking about.

Alnilam, no one cares.
June 6th, 2021
Thank you. I hope this book isn’t political propaganda as mentioned above, but I liked his previous books so I’ll give it a try.
June 6th, 2021
@neeko420
There is no apparent and obvious connection between STANDING ALONE and BEING RIGHT. So, even assuming you are 100% right about that (”no one cares”), still it’s not some objective criteria one must be seriously concerned about (i.e. POPULARITY and TRUTH do not always march in step, or go side by side).
June 6th, 2021
Correction: there is no apparent and obvious connection between STANDING ALONE and BEING RIGHT (or BEING WRONG, for that matter).
June 10th, 2021
alnilam, i just wanted to add another data point to say that no one cares. Getting closer to 100% every minute!
June 12th, 2021
Enjoyed the story. However to say that it isn’t a politized book is very disingenuous. The book does have a political viewpoint to it. That does not mean that it isn’t a interesting or has no value at all. No one was free in this book at all. All were “slaves” to the will of the state. Say no. Too bad we are doing it anyways. Want to be more detailed but do not want spoilers. Because I did enjoy it as a book of fiction.
July 2nd, 2021
Anlniam, I appreciate your analysis, even if some others don’t.
July 7th, 2021
A welcomed surprise, the book was witty funny and even a bit emotional at times. After a few years of listening to about a book or two a week, I rarely stumble upon something I like this much.
The political and sociological aspects are in my opinion necessary to carry the plot and add to the story, and contouring a more complex protagonist.
Not agreeing with the social or political context created in a work of fiction seems to me a little like trying to cut the rain with a sword because you don’t like the way it tastes … just get out of the rain … if you don’t like the book pick another one .
p.s. best book I listened to since Dennis E. Taylor’s - Bobiverse if you’re looking for something as crazy and entertaining
July 13th, 2021
Great book.
July 15th, 2021
@cheat3win
So smug, ye we get it you don’t care now bugger off and go not care somewhere else. Or contribute something, anything like @kvirusp or @anlniam
Personally I appreciate the warnings before reading the book about politics at it does take some enjoyment out of it.
If it’s anything like bobiverse then awesome
July 17th, 2021
@alnilam: is climate change the same as “climate alarmism” to you?
It’s a pretty safe bet you so associate the left with the issue of climate change that climate change can’t be real just in its own right to you.
August 1st, 2021
Thank you
August 1st, 2021
kinda sad to see people like @alnilam post their twisted ideological worldview under such a thrilling audiobook. I have some faults in the audiofiles in chapter 4 though.
August 4th, 2021
Any book or movie that have anything about doing responsible things, like acknowledging true history, or taking steps to take care of our air and environment, or simply taking people’s feelings into consideration will be considered politicized by Conservatives.
August 8th, 2021
alnilam: LMAO. Are you indoctrinated snowflakes ever going to stop getting triggered every time you leave your little safe space and encounter the real world? How’d it feel losing by over 7 million votes and your little attempted coup failing? Enjoy that lib boot on your neck, cretin. You lot brought this upon yourselves, now you’re the world’s laughingstock. One term failure. Owned, maggot. :)
August 17th, 2021
wishfire22, you call alnilam indoctrinated, like that’s a bad thing. I for one, share they point of view and, going even further, defend our faith in Trump and his politics, he may have lost by a few million votes (whos counting?), he hasn’t been re-instated yet as the legitimate POTUS, but what he preaches we believe, we don’t mind Trump’s saying he loves the uneducated, we embrace his alternative takes on the truth, his nepotistic, money making schemes (what did you expect, he is a business man!). He may have failed in all of his enterprises, hid his taxes, cheated on his wives, hired porn stars, sexually assaulted women, etc. But he is the one an only hope for us. Does that makes as a cult? so be it! Look at history: in the past, have leaders like him corralled (no pun intended) that many people with similar, monochrome gospels?
August 27th, 2021
This comments section is a dumpster fire. If you are complaining a sci-fi book is “political,” then I guess you haven’t read, or even watched, ANY large-scale sci-fi before.
Do you know why, in large-scale sci-fi books [series’/universes], they generally, unless it is a dystopia, are more left-leaning societies? Because on a long enough timeline, those are the only types of societies that don’t spiral into a dystopia for the masses and extreme opulence for a handful.
So please, spare us your righteous indignation that this author followed in the footsteps of literally every other sci-fi writer before him.

AMAZING BOOK! I bought 2 Hardcover copies after I listened to this! Also in the time this comment got written the torrent downloaded, thanks!

Good grief,
Someone took a huge dump in this comment section. Any verbal diarrhea should be aired in the goodreads comment sandbox with all the other tumblr rejects. Heed the lesson, all you who pass by. A helpful comment in here relates to the quality of the torrent not whatever mental excretions its content evoke.
BTW, great audible rip. Complete and chapterized at 128kbps as advertised.
November 11th, 2021
I appreciated alnilam’s comments and review, and it shows how indoctrinated and cult-like “Leftist” people are when their dogma is even mildly criticized in some random comments section.
You people would hammer The Gulag Archipelago for not being diverse enough or acknowledging the TRUTH of covid or climate change. You are the bad guys and don’t even realize it. You took time out of your day to STRUGGLE SESSION a random stranger for wrong think, even though you proclaim to NOT CARE. Liars.
November 13th, 2021
Don’t feed the troll, guys. Just ignore them, they will recede into their burrows again. I have read the book and it’s fantastic, and I have been told the audiobook does a really good job. Really willing to test it.
December 7th, 2021
LOL, a book can come from a political perspective that you might disagree with … but does that make it a bad book? This is science FICTION. Is it good FICTION or not? I will judge for myself.
February 26th, 2022
i didn’t see any political left or right i just enjoyed the book, thanks for the upload
April 2nd, 2022
The very fact that this book makes weird Q-anon cultists that dismiss tested and proven science and data as “alarmism” so pissed off makes me twice as excited to read it.
April 15th, 2022
Lol, I know huh, @atsamattayou? Such fear with the Q-anon weirdos that they freak out about a novel.
September 10th, 2022
Thanks for sharing!

If this book had a right wing leaning political overtones everyone would be complaining and that would be acceptable to all. Yet when someone complains about a book having left wing politics and they become enemy number one.

It can be painful for some when they discover the object of their affection has a different world view to them. Look at JK Rowling fans for example. She’s either too woke or too reactionary. They have immaturity as their excuse.

Crazy how conservatives can see people working together to achieve a common goal and call it liberal brainwashing propaganda.
Great book, I loved it and as long as you can think for yourself in any way you’ll like this too.

Well, I will try it, if they lean on it I will just delete it.

This comment section is wild! Reading through it was nearly as enjoyable as the book itself.
Seeing such distinctly opposing viewpoints coming together to steal an audiobook just warms my shrivelled heart.
Analson or whatever their name was sure has a unique writing style. It feels like either highly educated ESL or attempted highbrowification.
Please release the next chapter!

How is this too “Liberal?” I mean, the first chapter has this joke
>Probably asking if Sally’s Diner served gluten-free vegan grass clippings or something. The good people of San Francisco could be trying at times.
If the plot of “alien life eats sun, making the earth cold” triggers your anti-climate change programming, then you’ve got issues
