The American poet John Shade is dead. His last poem, ‘Pale Fire’, is put into a book, together with a preface, a lengthy commentary and notes by Shade’s editor, Charles Kinbote. A novel which deserves to be much better known: probably Nabokov’s second-best, and very 1960s.

pryderi absolutely!! This and ‘Ada, or Ardor’ and ‘Lolita’ round out the top three. but ‘Ada’ and ‘Pale Fire’ are inaccessible to the average reader, especially when the avg. reader hardly finishes nearly half what they start add to that Nabokov’s prose is mandatory re-reads. lol so of course they would run away from this gem, that would actually enrich their lives with a little literary pleasure.
