Glenn, a college sophomore, has a Sociology 102 paper that requires spending time with an unfamiliar group or culture. Luckily, two hot girls from his class have the same idea: Attend the university’s game club to get reaction material for their papers.
A creepy game moderator shows up, ready to start a game of Monsters, Maces and Magic. Glenn doesn’t fret over the GM’s disturbing vibe, figuring it’ll lead to potential fodder for his paper.
Moments after rolling up his character and beginning the adventure, Glenn, his two classmates, and three other players are drawn into the game - literally. How and why they got trapped in the game, transformed into their RPG characters are important questions, sure. But simply surviving a world filled with horrific creatures, unknown magic, and perilous roads is first on the list.

Thanks for sharing it. I would suggest Joel Rosenberg’s Guardian of the Flame series. It is pre litrpg ( 80’s - 90’s ). Similar premise though. Tackles a lot of issues I had never seen in fantasy books before them.

Agree with hopalong, Rosenberg’s series was definitely the first time I ever heard of the “sucked into the game world” idea, but it did it really well.

I liked it more than caverns and creatures it has way less potty humor. Also I laughed a lot more mainly cause of the big breasted elf. Life lesson here never let someone else roll your character. Thanks look forward to the next book.

The story is good but I don’t think I will be listening to the next book. I enjoyed the humor aspect of caverns and creatures. This one has somewhat of the same set up but tries to go for a more somber route.
One thing that confused me is when they got sucked into the game, they didn’t freak out enough. Especially the white girl who never played any video games before or knew anything about DnD style games. I hate whiny characters but in this situation it was acceptable if she couldn’t accept it as readily as the rest of the squad but within 3 minutes she was normal and it was rarely brought up again.
They were trying to be too “human” and diversify personalities and it created needless conflicts which only served to frustrate me. If I had to sum up this story with 1 word… it felt… gray?
