Daniel Defoe is most well-known for his classic novels, was born around 1660, he was also a journalist, a pamphleteer, a businessman, a spy. He was extremely prolific and a very versatile writer, producing several hundred books, pamphlets, and journals on various topics including politics, crime, religion, marriage, psychology and the supernatural. He was also a pioneer of economic journalism though was made bankrupt on more on one occasion and usually mired in debt.
“Memoirs of a Cavalier” is a literary sleight of hand. Written in the style of an eyewitness account, it’s actually a work of fiction—a trick Defoe would repeat in his later book “A Journal of a Plague Year”. Originally published anonymously, many readers of the time were fooled into thinking it was real. The book’s unnamed protagonist is an English gentleman with a lust for adventure. He details his experiences on battlefields across Europe, as a soldier in both the Thirty Years’ War and the English Civil War. With its vivid scenes of warfare, “Memoirs of a Cavalier” truly makes history come alive. –
Although this book and A Journal of a Plague Years are fiction, they so well written in a journalistic style that journalism students are often assigned them for study.

They could really grow some luxuriant hair back in the day. Must’ve been the diet. A guy now, in his (whatever Defoe’s age was there) would struggle to cultivate such a rich thatch.

LOL, Caesar, I understand your jealousy, Julius himself habitually wore the laurel wreath, in order to hide his baldness! So cavalier on!

Oh, I remain follicularly fortunate, but it’s just the scale of Dan’s healthy hirsuteness. He’s got a cascade of perfectly conditioned, tumbling locks for himself. I’d say even Mrs. Defoe would’ve been envious, but loved running her trembling digits through those vibrant curls & tresses - uh, what were we talking about?
