In Marx: A Very Short Introduction, Peter Singer identifies the central vision that unifies Marx’s thought, enabling us to grasp Marx’s views as a whole. He sees him as a philosopher primarily concerned with human freedom, rather than as an economist or a social scientist. In plain English, he explains alienation, historical materialism, the economic theory of Capital, and Marx’s ideas of communism, and concludes with an assessment of Marx’s legacy.

Marx was generally right about everything and a genuinely good person.
Most Marxists are too.

How does Peter Singer keep getting hired to write brief dismissals of thinkers he neither understands nor even cares about?
If you want Marx in brief, read Michael Heinrich’s An Introduction to the Three Volumes of Karl Marx’s Capital. It’s 200 pages and very to-the-point.

This is the old edition, not the second edition, but its fairly similar from what I can tell. I have the book of the second edition. Not sure what the comment means about brief dismissals? Did he even read it? I dont see any dismissal at all, but a good brief introduction to the subject matter that is in line with most other books about Marx or his ideas (like Maurice Cornforths Dialectical Materialism volumes). You can also find a discussion on YT with Bryan Mcghee he had about Hegel and Marx probably decades ago(he wrote both VSIs on those topics). So not sure what he is dismissing, because he seems to get it right and doesn’t dismiss Marx at all. Cant speak to his book on utilitarianism, but if he dismisses that, than that’s probably accurate as its a nonsense idea. But considering how he writes, I doubt he is dismissive of anything in that book either.
