In the great wars of modern history, maritime powers have always prevailed over land-based empires, whether Habsburg, Napoleonic, Nazi, or Soviet. In contrast to the rigid hierarchies and centralization of land-based empires, those nations attaining mastery at sea have been distinguished by liberty, flexibility, and enterprise. The 17th-century Dutch were the first to achieve naval and trading dominance and, exploring the effects on daily life, industry, art and thought, finance and power politics, Peter Padfield reveals the Dutch in their golden age as the heralds of modern Western society. The British took over the Dutch system of naval, trading, and world supremacy in the 18th century and were, in their turn, displaced by the United States in the 20th. This book carries the story from the defeat of the Armada in 1588 to the American Revolutionary War and Rodney’s victory. Maritime Supremacy and the Opening of the Western Mind charts the growth of linked strengths - sea-fighting, trading, financial, and constitutional - that made empires so formidable and reveals how supremacy at sea freed thought and society itself.

Looks to have stalled out at 97%

Thanks for uploading such great titles. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but quite a few of them don’t download to completion for one reason or another, and there’s never a re-upload of failed posts.

@wolfcomm
You can request a reseed in the forum (see link at the top of the page).

Request a reseed of a bad torrent? Not the best idea I’ve heard lately.

I do request reseeds for old uploads that have very few or no seeders, but I don’t want to be a pest and request a reseed of an upload that was posted, say, yesterday… I’d rather assume that the uploader is going to get to it sooner or later, so I just give it a few days. Then again, I’m sure that some of the other downloaders are as patient. So, I’m sure that some of them complain and request plenty… but apparently to no avail, because I almost never see them getting seeded or re-uploaded. I don’t think it’s negligence on behalf of the uploader, either. Someone that dedicated to uploading so many books is obviously all about sharing, which is great. I think it’s most likely technical issues of some kind.

My apologies to everyone, it’s working fine now. A little patience was all that seemed to be required.

Fails, perhaps due to excessively long path & filename….

@Wolfcomm is correct.
A few torrents recently uploaded by the @jayman99 do not seed at all at the start, and then only trickle byte by byte for days.
I don’t mind waiting a bit for a rare title, but a torrent remains seeded for longer time if many people get it at first.

Yeah, this guy does loads of half-arsed uploads that stall at random places.

Its how seedboxes work. If tons of people snatch it, it hits its ratio max before some or any of the leeches get a full download. Then your at the mercy of all the leeches who grab and run.
I did a few people a favour with the Henry VIII one that 100 people were all stuck at 66%. I had to seed it like 4 times, and kick it back seeding a dozen times on each.
Sharing is Caring 8-)

All good, many thanks.

Apologies for the seeding errors. I have fixed the problem with this one and all the others. Please let me know if it’s still not working. I will try seed as much as I can.
