Philip Madoc is unequalled as a performer of Malory (he is often at his best in Medieval or early Renaissance work), and the Morte d’Arthur is one of a handful of major works which probably benefit from abridgement (at least until you know the Mabinogion, and perhaps some Chretien).

Rather than a proper abridgment, all tales are simply shortened such that Galahad only makes it part way to heaven, the knights sit at the semi-circular table, Lancelot only get to first base, etc.
Been trying to lay hands on an animated version of Mabinogion. It exists, but nobody is prepared to sell copies. I was just listening to that tale that starts with the lady on the magically fast horse.
