No reason why dogs wouldn’t make great medics - both even share ongoing issues over paw-hygiene.

I remember reading an article in the Daily Mail a year or more back and canines were used to detect cancers. And depending where on or in the body, a canine would sniff the breath of a person, or do a whole sniff body scan including melanoma, or a urine sample for cancer or diabetes. All dogs were previously trained and went through a urine sample (for example) with control urine samples nearby.
The canines were able to detect cancers including ones that had not yet been diagnosed through standard lab work with a 97% accuracy rate.
Canines also can warn of impending seizures, heart attacks and a precipitous drop in blood sugar levels in Type 2 diabetics.

My dog seems to be continuously diagnosing testicular cancer, if his sniff-test is at all reliable. But then the Daily (Hate) Mail is the dog’s bollocks!
