Curious to see if this at all addresses the author/creator of the Wonder Woman comics —
William Moulton Marston, a psychologist and inventing the polygraph — he was also an outspoken feminist, swinger (shared his wife with another woman — both of whom, effectively directed his life), S&M practitioner, and firm believer in the superiority of women. He described bondage and submission as a “respectable and noble practice”. Peach of a guy.

A listened twice to: “Batman and Psychology - A Dark and Stormy Knight by Travis Langley” superb! (it explains briefly why batman females are mostly villans)

“Professor Marston and the Wonder Women” - a delightfully sleazy chap, as roeyrboat said. Ironically disturbing that his creation became an iconic character for children.
Batman and Psychology is great - using popular culture to transmit ideas is very effective.
A lot of these comic book characters are rooted in the thirties and forties when ideas of gender roles were very different, and seem foreign to us now.

Polygraphs do not work. Cops use them to trick people into revealing extra info, not to detect lies.
Superhero comics mainly appeal to men. This remains true in the case of female superheroes also. The only comics that actually appeal to women are the ones that abandon the superhero genre, some in all but name.
