I’ve found the solution to black people getting killed by the police - DON’T GET INVOLVED IN CRIME If you do and you get caught, don’t resist arrest, don’t attack the the arresting officers. That way you won’t end up on the ground with a knee on your neck. Don’t, as happened recently, grab the officer’s gun and run around pointing it him. The police aren’t going to let you go just because you don’t want to be arrested.

What’s a bit shocking about discussions like this is how few people, on “either side”, seem to understand why last year’s protesting grew so large and lasted for so long. It had little to do with “blm” (who are a few people saying dumb things for money) and a lot to do with the more than 2500 independent instances, recorded on video with oftentimes multiple recordings each, of police officers beating, shooting, and maiming people without provocation.
These beatings/shootings/maimings included many people not protesting at all, like:
- two women acting as photojournalists who each had an eye shot out
- a man walking from his friends house to his car, who had an eye shot out
- a man driving by in his car, who had an eye shot out
- a ~13 year old boy, helping his mother clean up after a protest had ended, who had an eye shot out
- a teenage boy walking home from work, who was shot in the face and had his skull fractured / went into a coma
- several people who were shot by police while inside their homes, sometimes through closed windows
- a man walking home from work at the hospital who was then beaten so badly he had to be taken back to the hospital as a patient
and so on. These highly-visible incidents, along with the hundreds of others involving journalists, medical professionals, and legal observers unlawfully beaten, arrested, and robbed, and then incidents involving protestors themselves which included many more lost eyes, fractured skulls and broken hands or other bones, a woman who had her finger shot off when an officer shot the phone she was using to film, and a few incidents of police running over crowds of people and of mass torture (police surrounding a crowd from all sides and then flooding the area with tear gas while shooting people), and the complete lack of accountability or even acknowledgement, ensured a steady flow of enraged citizens to fuel the months worth of protests with participation rates in the tens of thousands.
And in the end nothing has changed…
