Well, while absolutely acknowledging the great Scottish thinkers, it’s not that simple, this book (text published in 2001) covers the related events mostly from 18th century onward, and the competition (Daniel Hannan, text published in 2013) goes deeper in time, from 10th century onward :)

The notion that you’re special because you just happen to have the same colour of skin as the likes of Newton & Darwin is beyond infantile & is really a form of theft - credit stealing.
If the legions of white losers ever accomplish anything noteworthy in their brief meaningless lives, I’m sure we’ll read about it on the front page of every news paper in the land. In the meantime, zip it wannabes.

Good thing it’s not up to any enlightened individuals to decide who’s supposed to talk about what and for how long.
There’s another possibility, which has nothing to do with anybody’s real or imagined shortcomings, namely that that particular “handful of long dead white men” accomplished in their historical times something truly meaningful, honorable, important, worthy of admiration of many people, whose brains and souls were not corrupted by the siren’s song of leftism.

Scots like to portray themselves as being part of the Celtic fringe oppressed by London, alongside the Irish. But the truth is that a relatively large number of Scotsman formed the shock troops of British Imperialism, be it in the slave trade or pushing opium in China (William Jardine and James Matheson).
So yes, Scots did help form the modern world, but not in the way this total whitewash of a book likes to portray history.
