From New York Times bestselling author Sarah Kendzior comes the bitingly honest examination of the erosion of American liberty and the calculated rise to power of Donald Trump.
The rise of Donald Trump may have shocked Americans, but it should not have surprised them. His anti-democratic movement is the culmination of a decades-long breakdown of U.S. institutions. The same blindness to U.S. decline – particularly the loss of economic stability for the majority of the population and opportunity-hoarding by the few – is reflected in an unwillingness to accept that authoritarianism can indeed thrive in the so-called “home of the free”.
As Americans struggle to reconcile the gulf between a flagrant aspiring autocrat and the democratic precepts they had been told were sacred and immutable, the inherent fragility of American democracy has been revealed. Hiding in Plain Sight exposes this continual loss of freedom, the rise of consolidated corruption, and the secrets behind a burgeoning autocratic United States that have been hiding in plain sight for decades. In Kendzior’s signature and celebrated style, she expertly outlines Trump’s meteoric rise from the 1980s until today, interlinking key moments of his life with the degradation of the American political system and the continual erosion of our civil liberties by foreign powers.
Kendzior also offers a never-before-seen look at her personal life and her lifelong tendency to be in the wrong place at the wrong time – living in New York through 9/11 and in St. Louis during the Ferguson uprising, and researching media and authoritarianism when Trump emerged using the same tactics as the post-Soviet dictatorships she had long studied.
Hiding in Plain Sight is about confronting injustice – an often agonizing process, but an honest and necessary one – as the only way that offers the possibility of ending it.

Anyone who thinks Trump isn’t a narcissistic totalitarian has got to be dumber than a truckload of hammers.
Glad to see this book here. More people need to hear what Sarah Kendzior has to say.

These lunatics think saying words is the same thing as violence. That’s how they make the enormous leap from Trump saying the American press is bad to the idea that Trump was somehow undermining freedom of the press. This gives them the feeling of moral justification to actually in fact undermine freedom of the press for real with cancel culture.

Presently, I have this book in front of me, reading a few excerpts. In a moment it will be behind me.
And trees were killed for this drivel!??

I find it very telling that not one pro-Trump comment here is free of spelling or grammatical errors.

Attn: wheresmycannon – Ramosivle appears to be busy, so I am taking the liberty to answer your question myself. But I must say, the fact you, in particular, chose to ask Ramosivle to point out your grammar mistake leaves me a bit speechless. All you have to do is to reread R’s first comment, then your first comment right below R’s comment. Note that R used “who” and you used “whom” in the exact same type of sentence.
And if one wishes to nitpick, one could point to the lack of a hyphen in “commie worshipping” or the lack of sense in the term “Antifas.” The latter error will be clear to you, I think, if you consider this analogous construction: “a truckload of Gingrich-worshipping Tea Partys [or Tea Parties, though this is beside the point].” The correct construction would be “Antifa supporters” or “Antifa activists” or “Antifa militants” and so on. Likwise for the old Tea Party movement: “Tea Party supporters” or “Tea Party activists” and so on.
Finally, here in Portland, the majority of people associated with Rose City Antifa seem to identify as anarchist. And many, I suspect, actually agree with the Libertarian party platform. So they are not fans of (or worshippers of) the old “Communist” states with their secret police and intense police repression. (Again, here in Portland, the people in Antifa are extremely antagonistic toward the police.)

@wheresmycannon:
You separated your subject and verb by a comma.
That is your grammatical mistake.

Anyone who claims to have listened to this book is a liar. Kendzior’s voice is unbearable and I should know. I’m the guy who taught Arab women to ululate.
