It is often said, even by critical scholars who should know better, that “writing in the name of another” was widely accepted in antiquity. But New York Times best-selling author Bart D. Ehrman dares to call it what it was: literary forgery, a practice that was as scandalous then as itis today. In Forged, Ehrman’s fresh and original research takes readers back to the ancient world, where forgeries were used as weapons by unknown authors to fend off attacks to their faith and establish their church. So, if many of the books inthe Bible were not in fact written by Jesus’s inner circle - but by writers living decades later, with differing agendas in rival communities - what does that do to the authority of Scripture?
Ehrman investigates ancient sources to:
Reveal which New Testament books were outright forgeries.
Explain how widely forgery was practiced by early Christian writers - and how strongly it was condemned in the ancient world as fraudulent and illicit
Expose the deception in the history of the Christian religion.
Ehrman’s fascinating story of fraud and deceit is essential reading for anyone interested in the truth about the Bible and the dubious origins of Christianity’s sacred texts.

Paul’s proximate percipience is, er, piercingly & penetratingly pivotal, on this particular point.

History’s favorite flip-flipper is back!

What’s a flip-flipper? Did you mean flip-flopper?

“Flipper” was, famously, a crime-fighting dolphin. He had a much more impressive arrest rate than Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo. Although, that could be attributed to comparative crime levels, vis-à-vis Australia & America.

Seems like an odd book for him to write considering his beliefs. Of course the bible wasnt written by the people whose names are on the books. It wasnt written contemporaneous to the apostles at all. Which makes one wonder why anyone thinks its the word of god, since it was never the word of god, not even to believers. It was always supposed to to be the writings of men, fallible men. Even crazier that people take it as the complete literal scientific truth. As if its a physics text book. Not to mention that the versions of the bible people read have been translated and re-translated, with all the associated ‘reinterpretations’ that go along with that, time and time again. With little similarity to the original text (particularly the more modern versions). Which isnt even original in the first place.

I’m sorry, but I have to step-in here. Flipper wasn’t a ‘crime-fighting dolphin’, at least, crime-fighting wasn’t central to his identity; on occasion, did assist in the apprehension of criminals. However, this was always secondary to his principal interest which was helping to protect the Coral Key Park and Marine Preserve.

@trax0r
You’re correct. And yet Westboro Baptist is a thing.

The difference in crime rates might be due to the fact that one of them is a place where all the criminals, misfits and psychopaths were sent to and the other is near New Zealand.
