A classic that for over two decades has been hailed as the best general work on libertarianism available. Rothbard begins with a quick overview of its historical roots, and then goes on to define libertarianism as resting “upon one single axiom: that no man or group of men shall aggress upon the person or property of anyone else.” He writes a withering critique of the chief violator of liberty: the State. Rothbard then provides penetrating libertarian solutions for many of today’s most pressing problems, including poverty, war, threats to civil liberties, the education crisis, and more.

Libertarianism defined: I’m rich, f*** you.
May 29th, 2022
@Gweilo - I’m Libertarian, and not rich. But still, f*** you. Keep you hands off my stuff and leave me alone…don’t infringe on my rights and I won’t infringe on yours.
Prolly too deep of a concept for liberal cucks like yourself.

REAL Libertarianism defined: Leave me and my stuff alone. I won’t infringe on your rights, don’t infringe on mine. Oh…and stop wasting money on a huge government that’s not needed, wars that aren’t wanted, and being the world’s police force.

If Rothbard doesn’t like the state he should sod off to Somalia and see how far he gets in the absence of one.

But if someone tries to take your stuff (and, no, you aren’t as tough as you think you are - you lot never are) you’d want the police to help. Or if you were trapped by snow or floods, or if your house caught fire…
How old are you, 12?

It’s always hilarious when people like you get into a jam and realise, finally, that NOBODY gives a sh1t about them.

1. That all taxation is theft.
2. Whatever outcomes are reached through a “free market” are magical and shouldn’t be in any way meddled with.
3. Talk of “rights” such as a “right to a living wage” or a “right to safe work” or “right not to be discriminated against” or the right to “equal pay for equal work” aren’t REALLY rights and that the market (that is, workers and employers through supply and demand) will determine these. See precept 2. So, if it’s arrived at without government then it’s fine. So might makes right.
4. The reputation of a company and consumer choice should alone police what it can and can’t do. Everyone must do their own independent research and companies are welcome to sue any claims made by independent research outfits. Disinformation has an economic power through corporations to be disseminated but dispersed interests such as those of consumers don’t (even if they may create more economic wealth overall) and so will be suppressed. EPA, CDC, FDA, etc. regulations will be eliminated and corporations will only abide by legal decisions arrived at class-action lawsuits with tightly sealed loopholes through extensive litigations and fines. Bankruptcy may also then invalidate all such decisions. Perfectly legal structures and Cayman Island based entities may limit what settlements may be reached.
5. Legal remediation through lawsuits will alone determine what’s acceptable. Lawyer-up! You should have an attorney on call for going on a walk with your dog.
6. Distortions to the magic of the market are introduced by any and all intrusions by government so they must be strictly discouraged by all possible means. Single-payer healthcare systems may be the most efficient overall for society but since they must be provided by governments they can’t be a consideration.
7. Harm to oneself counts for nothing and personal liberty is all-expansive and sacrosanct so that if you choose to not accept any safety standards or to do drugs or to not wear a mask in a pandemic or to contract yourself out as a slave then you’re perfectly within your rights to do so. Consent (verbalized acknowledgment that you willing accept your master, be it drugs, abusive spouse, tyrannical employer, etc.) is all-determinative.
8. Businesses should be free to openly avow and act on sexist, racist, homophobic, bigoted, and hateful policies and the voting of consumers with their dollars should be only determinative means of righting any such discrimination. Caveat emptor!
9. Establishing private property and clearly defined ownership is a cure-all for all social problems so there shouldn’t exist public parks, environmental policies, safety standards, public highways, etc.
10. The provision of even basic services will now be the sole purview of individuals through the sale of their labor. The so-called RIGHTS to eat, to be clothed, to have shelter, to not suffer violent assault and forceful removal while sleeping under a bridge, etc. are now PRIVILEGES that employers, corporation, philanthropists, and other NGOs may or may not chose though their charity to provide. The rights of the pikes (i.e. Citizens United) will be put on par with the rights of the minnows (in this instance, to fair elections). Pull yourself by your bootstraps and go out there and get it in the free-for-all market or manipulate others to provide it for you through a pitiful appearance. You’re only constrained by your own free choices, abilities, and willingness to expend your efforts. Life is abounding in possibilities! Or equally you’re limited by your disabilities, moral scruples, and your peculiar history of poverty and injustice.
11. Maintenance of economic stability through monetary policy (the Fed), guarantying fair competition (FTC), regulation of monopolies (FTC), infrastructure programs (DOT), the correction of occasional market failures, and withal the safeguarding of market rules through well-funded governmental agencies will be left to mega-corps to sort out.
12. The Fed should be eliminated. Private banks issue their own currency. Regulations determining their banknotes allowed for issue and circulation as a percentage of assets will be left to them to determine. Accept such currencies at your own risk. People will be encouraged to store their wealth in gold, BTC, and other hard assets.
13. Redistribution through progressive tax schemes will be eliminated (see precept 1) and you’ll pay a regressive flat tax. “For to every one who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
14. …
I could go on. It’s a simplistic formula and most of us have to live in the messy real world.
