Heine’s prescient observation never ceases to be vitally relevant: “Where they burn books, they will in the end also burn people.”
When they are so emotionally convinced that someone who thinks differently must be wrong, and therefore evil (naturally without even slightly understanding the arguments) then it is so much easier to dehumanise and demonise.
Then the ideological blaze is sparked (the 20th century, in zealous essence).

These far-right blowhards are always whining about how they are silenced, when they dominate social media, due to their talent for inciting outrage, have the have the Murdoch press and TV empire behind them.

@Gweilo, No, they’re just busy burning flags, businesses and destroying America - and calling any people in the right “far right” and saying they aren’t being silenced is just as dishonest - just more dishonesty from a leftist. But hey, we’re all used to it by now, it’s leftists’ character trait.

It’s not really necessary to be too literal-minded regarding the title. Metaphorical usage should not be beyond our wit. There are always left/right extremists who desire destruction, race war, economic collapse (as occurred post-1929) - because they see in social calamity their own naked opportunity. Given the chance, they hasten, exacerbate & exploit existing tensions. These are the “book burners” by any other name.
Also, by way of exasperated observation: why does so much enraged invective & breathless polemic on the internet come down to the Cock Bros/George Soros? This red meat must always be sought & cited as some form of doctrinaire rationale/justification - a usefully provocative casus belli. Regular as depressing, ideological clockwork, that one. And Soros being Jewish, of course. Apparently this author is also Jewish; yet another “reason” (as if one were required) for the loonies…
Indeed, we should all be concerned at instances of left/right extremism. However, when precisely was it, in the States, that the vital concerns of free expression, individual autonomy, anti-authoritarianism of all kinds & defending liberalism become the preserve of the “far-right” of all things? This deplatforming garbage is pure fascism - and wholly counterproductive.

Someone who unquestionably believes a secondhand interpretation about a translation of a translation of a translation of a book written by middle eastern goat herders isn’t a free thinker; they’re barely a thinker at all.
