There are several different DUNE torrents on ABB.
What differs with this are 2 things.
1. The VOICE ACTOR (and proper actor) George Guidall, all others are NARRATORS (yes there is a big differens, at least in my view).
It matters a lot for the immersion
2. I believe (and hope) this upload is “flawless”, there are usually some quality issues (the recording is 25 years old) but I belive I got this right and can hardly belive this is an old recording.
If you notice any quality issues PLEASE leave a comment with a time stamp, so I can try to fix it.
The book is 23 hours long so it is easy to miss things, can’t really listen to it 20 times…
George Guidall’s Dune is by most considered THE DUNE recording, The “Classic”
George Guidall had in 2014 recorded 1.270 Audio Books!!! (probably a record)
If a book is 10 hours, you work a 40 hour work week, that’s 1.587 working days (> 6 years) if you do it in one take…
George Guidal is Widely recognized as the world’s most acclaimed and most prolific narrator of audiobooks, George Guidall has brought a consistent artistry to his readings, delighting listeners for over 20 years.
His narrations of classics like Crime and Punishment, Frankenstein, The Iliad, Don Quixote, and Les Miserables, along with many popular best sellers, have set a standard for excellence recognized throughout the audiobook industry.
He has received several Audie Awards—the industry’s equivalent of an Oscar— and holds the record for receiving the most Earphone Awards for excellence in narration given by Audiofile Magazine which has named him one of the original “Golden Voices” in the audiobook industry.
He has been honored by the Audio Publishers Association with a life-time achievement award for his record of more than 1,300 unabridged narrations.
Along with his award-winning work as an audiobook narrator, Guidall has also enjoyed a career in the theatre, including starring roles on Broadway, an Obie award for best performance Off-Broadway, and has shared the stage at the New York Shakespeare Festival with Kevin Kline, Morgan Freeman, and Meryl Streep.
In addition to TV dramas such as Law & Order, he has appeared on most of the daytime television series.
In short “A Busy Guy”
Ok what about the Book??? DUNE.
Well I belive most people know what it is about.
The short version:
It is about a guy in a desert and big worms.
The longer version:
Hugo Best Novel
Nebula Awards Best Novel
Hugo Best Novel (nominee)
The Duke of Atreides has been manoeuvred by his arch enemy, Baron Harkonnen, into administering the desert planet of Dune.
Although it is almost completely without water, Dune is a planet of fabulous wealth, for it is the only source of a drug prized throughout the Galactic Empire.
The Duke and his son, Paul, are expecting treachery and it duly comes - but from a shockingly unexpected place.
Then, when Paul succeeds his father, he becomes a catalyst for the native people of Dune, whose knowledge of the ecology of the planet gives them vast power.
They have been waiting for a leader like Paul Atreides, a leader who can harness that force…
If you miss any of the DUNE books I have posted a large collection recently
Link:
https://audiobookbay.lu/abss/frank-herbert-collection-frank-herbert-2/
and it was that torrent that “forced me” to do this upload after @cn145912 kindly posted:
“The book Dune, part III is corrupted around 2:12:02″
Well it was only 10-20 sec (out of 23 hours) but still.
This is a Classic so there SHOULD be a good torrent of this on ABB.
That is more or less our duty :)
OOOH Yeah The Artwork is “Jodorovsky’s Dune”
Yeah got a bit long…
PLEASE COMMENT ON THE AUDIO QUALITY (and remember it IS 25 years old)

Must say AMAZING interest considering the torrent is a month old.

George Guidall narrating is a vas deferens. thank you!

Thank you for this!

Sounds like it was recorded last week. Totally first rate audio and performed by the late, great Maestro Guidall. What’s not to love? You have definitely hit this one out of the park, jory. Many, many thanks.
November 4th, 2021
The definite edition, I agree.
Cannot comment on the sound quality though, because I already have two copies, one from CD and the other cassette. :)

@worminbooks
“lready have two copies, one from CD and the other cassette”
I have used 3 different CD sets, CD’s dont last forever…
All CD sets had some “corrupt” data so I edited “the 3 different sets to one.
The problem is I do not know if I found all corrupt data…
3 sets of CD’s are 70 hours of audio.
So what I hope here is loads of people listen to this and if they find something they post it here.
Sort of “Crowd Proof reading”
See how this turns out
I am sure there is something…

Awesome, thank you

Hey thanks for your dedication.

Thanks for all the hard work.
Here’s a couple of cover to choose from:
1st one is a scan of the original boxset, not the greatest, like jory said it’s 25 years old
https://www.imagebam.com/view/ME4QIX9
2nd is the cover to the full cast version, BUT I threw it into PhotoShop and removed the list of the cast and just add George :-) This is the one I’ll be using

Enjoy,
Vamps

jakeslatnesky deserves an internet oscar for that seminal contribution (wot he discharged).
Thx, jory, Guidall was indeed great. There had been CD-type skips around 6.42ff in the previous upload - just where Duncan Idaho had too much spice beer & made a right eejit out of himself - but they’re not in this one.
You have eternal Caesarean love & respect for your noble labours.
November 4th, 2021
Thanks jory - sounds so good. Love your passion. Guidall rules!

George Guidall isn’t dead. He’s still alive and still narrating new books. The most recent Longmire book, released in September, was read by him.

“George Guidall isn’t dead. He’s still alive and still narrating new books. ”
Yeah I heard.
Think it is a collaboration with Elvis…
November 4th, 2021
Hey jory :-) Voight wasn’t joking and is correct. George Guidall is still and alive and kicking.
https://www.audible.com/pd/Daughter-of-the-Morning-Star-Audiobook/1705023762
That 1270 books narrated stat was an “as of” 2014 :-) Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 1800 to 2000 by now.

You are correct.
My bad.

George Guidall is in my top five of audiobook readers.
I was lucky to attend a reading of his a few years ago and later shook his hand with thanks for his hundreds of hours of entertaining and flawless story-telling. He was imposing in size and gracious in nature.
When you listen to someone reading you story after story over the period of several decades, you feel like you get to know that person.
I could recommend so many of his works. One series that sticks out is Arnaldur Indridason’s 11 book Reykjavik Murder Mysteries. Absolutely fantastic writing with George’s engrossing narration.
Thank you jory for this upload!

@jory
So you had the CDs and personally ripped them to MP3? Thank you!
November 4th, 2021
My pre-Xmas present! ^___^
November 4th, 2021
@wuuk
“So you had the CDs and personally ripped them to MP3?”
No.
I had 3 different downloads there different parts were corrupt on each (and in “disc sized pieces)
I removed the “This is disc… this is disc” comments.’
Removed the corrupt parts and replaced them with uncorrupt parts from the other versions.
They all have corrupt parts, not just the same ones.
Would be strange if everybody’s discs got corrupt in the same places :)
Although it seems to happen mostly in the end / start of discs.
I think this download is the only uncorrupt version online.
The “Frank Herbert Collection” seems popular.
When I looked for these Guidal recordings I saw somebody have posted the whole thing on 1337X torrent site.

jory, I’m in awe of the work you put into sharing with us. Thank you.

This man is fantastic, and surely is a great example of the voice recording movement that came from the books-for-the-blind library project.
Sadly I think the golden age is over, and I cannot image such a wonderful reader being recruited and used by the big publishers today (yes, I know he is still working- but when his type are dead/retired they will not be replaced). Audible is dumbing down new audio-books at a terrible rate, even as it helps make them more popular than ever.
Facebook has banned a ton of spoken content from the VR version of Resident Evil 4, and Amazon has the exact same politics. The future will bring highly censored versions of books read by people chosen for ‘characteristics’ that have nothing to do with their vocal performance.
Knowing this allows me to appreciate the ‘time machine’ of ‘old’ recordings all the more - like a character out of Fahernheit 451 treasuring his secret cache of ‘illegal’ books.
An excellent reader narrating an excellent book is, for me, nectar from the gods. So a massive thank you to anyone here making an effort to preserve the older recordings from tape and disc.
November 5th, 2021
‘characteristics’ - ???
You’re really moving ahead with those sinister insinuations.
November 12th, 2021
I started listening to this last night, The sound quality is good, but there was audible glitching at the 1 hour and 1 minute mark. It lasts for a while.
November 21st, 2021
Does this contain all the parts??

” The sound quality is good, but there was audible glitching at the 1 hour and 1 minute mark.”
Thanks for the feedback.
Yes there are a couple of “audio issues” scratches/glitches for around 10 sec
Not “a lot” on a 23 hour recording but still…
Will try to fix it but it is not high priority since it does not really affect the book.
There are other recordings with higher priority.

I couldn’t thank you enough, really, I felt like winning the lottery when I first listened to him on YouTube and in a week it was removed.other narrators suck and they give me a headache, but then I found it again, then again removed.he is so unexplainably amazing and passionate that i started doing the research.but when you search on google for dune narrators you won’t find him listed.so kept searching and not even knowing his name till I knew it but still not available on amazon it took me a long time to find it.so thankfully i found your post here so after all this, i would take it even if it had traffic noises in the background. thanks a lot again
