  @Sirdroid - Its hard to say where to start. You could look on YouTube for timeline of the Warhammer 40K universe if you like Sci Fi (its more popular), or the Warhammer Fantasy universe if you like Sword & Sorcery.
  For 40k, The Horus Heresy happened near the 31st millennium, which is 10,000 years before many of the Warhammer 40k stories are. But its a very long read (54 books in the main series, and about 14 in the Siege of terra series, plus 17 books for the primarchs and about 150+ short stories).
  But the 40k post Heresy universe has a huge amount of story telling, from the Tyranids to Caiphus Cain & Gaunts Ghosts, through Chaos, the Eldar, Necrons and Abaddons Black crusade.
  A lot of the characters from the Horus heresy appear in the 40k novels. The 40k novels don’t really have any order to them, they can pretty much be read in any order, other than certain series like Gaunts Ghosts.
  for Warhammer Fantasy, The books are pretty much about each faction against other factions, and again, I have not seen that much of an order, books are written about all the ages, its really up to you about which race you are most interested in. I think the Age of Sigmar books are from the earlier times than most other books, since Sigmar is a very old character.
  I recommend using YouTube and looking at Warhammer as a whole to see what sparks your interest. Weshammer has a lot of detailed videos about 40k, but there are many others.

  you could start with Caiphas Cain and Gaunts Ghosts as they tell you everything you need to enjoy them and they are fantastic reads. Then you just start at horus rising and work from there. (assuming you go 40k)
