  We have to have the maturity to evaluate every person’s tendencies towards good and evil. This does not have to mean that “The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones.” We’re capable of negotiating & accommodating human complexity. The British Empire was a dark phase of history. As was/is eugenics, which was never confined to the obviously evil side in the war.

  @caesar963 brilliantly encapsulated, there are evils carried out throughout history, by brilliant men & women of genius, whom’s contribution to the world at large has had a resounding positive impact that reverberates until this very day. This is not to say, they are absolved of all sins and the toying with evil ideas. Rather a reappraisal of many of these individuals is in order, as to understand what where the motivators, and what planted the seeds behind these dark deeds. Some evil are plainly unforgivable, as the perpetrators of them intended them to harm and hurt, and to benefit only their ideologies and small sect. Some others, are follies of men with no history of malice, who think taking a particular course, influenced by the dominant thought and thinkers of the day/time period are the best choices, and commit great follies, that end up being horrific acts. Whether we wish to acknowledge it or not, there IS a spectrum of severity of Evils, on which every person in the history books falls on, there is a DARK SIDE, NATURALLY hardwired into our human nature; which the average person does not care to recognize or further educate themselves upon, although most have that inner intuition that whisper-yells to them of this truthism. Once we all are comfortable with further dialogue , investigation & education on this unspoken part of the human Psyche & Nature, there is no telling the upside that will come from this; as has been shown in small studies, and in some cultures who practice brutal, honest , self-confrontations with an aim to understand the dark and vastly improve on the light or ‘Better Angels of our Nature.’

  And today when you read the version of history Winston Churchill wrote, and he is a world class writer, one still sees & hears Empire, Racism & the Elitist Lord of The Manor snobbery. Add in his hatred, distrust and dislike of the poor, the brown, the black, the yellow, the Jew, the Catholics, and his lowers, and you end up with a lot of hatred.

  Cancel culture is a hell of tail wind. Might feel like the sharp edge of a scythe on your back if you try and play it down the middle @edbroadway. No Irish, no Blacks, no Dogs was a thing until recently. @caesar should get some sort of a pass on account of the hundreds on years of oppression his doggie culture has experienced but no he’s an evil racist for cautioning some small degree of temperance.
