It is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism. After 1989, capitalism has successfully presented itself as the only realistic political-economic system–a situation that the bank crisis of 2008, far from ending, actually compounded. The book analyses the development and principal features of this capitalist realism as a lived ideological framework.
Using examples from politics, film (Children Of Men, Jason Bourne, Supernanny), fiction (Le Guin and Kafka), work and education, it argues that capitalist realism colors all areas of contemporary experience, is anything but realistic and asks how capitalism and its inconsistencies can be challenged. It is a sharp analysis of the post-ideological malaise that suggests that the economics and politics of free market neo-liberalism are givens rather than constructions.
New Edition includes:
– Forward by Zoe Fisher, Mark’s wife, talking about Mark as a person
– Introduction by Alex Niven, his friend and colleague, talking about the political significance of the book thirteen years after it was written
– Afterword by Tariq Goddard, the original editor and publisher, describing the writing and editing of the book, its original reception, and Mark’s own view of it

Thanks for sharing.
Biggest improvement of this new edition is the narrator. The previous one had an annoying affectation.

Thank you so much for uploading. I hate Russell Brand’s voice, so I am so relieved that there is a version read by literally anyone other than him

Oh here we go… another book that talks about how terrible Capitalism is without calling out the banks owned by the tiny hats and our manipulated currency from the federal reserve which is ran by the tiny hats, that also creates our interest rates, inflation, recessions and depressions that otherwise would not exist in a traditional Capitalist system not manipulated by centralized banking and banks in general. It’s pretty obvious that our country is being taken over by communists and socialists alike, spreading their gender theory, race baiting nonsense to divide and conquer. Israel has decided to dismantle our system and bleed our country dry, causing people to suffer the economic consequences of their rule over our corporations, banking systems and government.
Until a book calls out these things happening, then it’s just another load of garbage spreading anti-Capitalist propaganda through agitprop.

Agree with el_lissitzky. HF01’s reference to ‘tiny hats’ is a reference to Jews. He is a genuine fascist. (And it sounds like he is not read this book, of course, because this book is not so much a criticism of capitalism but a criticism of how we view capitalism)

2 things can be right at the same time. Take everything with a grain of salt yet outlook not so good. Populism is capitalism in crisis. Capitalism is all that will be left. Neoliberalism has failed god is dead because we killed it. Neo liberalism is a right wing ideology and the populist right wangers are in denial. You got what you wanted now take your medicine. Stop projecting your insecurities on me.
