An accessible, compelling introduction to today’s major policy issues from the New York Times columnist, best-selling author, and Nobel prize-winning economist Paul Krugman.
There is no better guide than Paul Krugman to basic economics, the ideas that animate much of our public policy. Likewise, there is no stronger foe of zombie economics, the misunderstandings that just won’t die.
In Arguing with Zombies, Krugman tackles many of these misunderstandings, taking stock of where the United States has come from and where it’s headed in a series of concise, digestible chapters. Drawn mainly from his popular New York Times column, they cover a wide range of issues, organized thematically and framed in the context of a wider debate. Explaining the complexities of health care, housing bubbles, tax reform, Social Security, and so much more with unrivaled clarity and precision, Arguing with Zombies is Krugman at the height of his powers.
Arguing with Zombies puts Krugman at the front of the debate in the 2020 election year and is an indispensable guide to two decades’ worth of political and economic discourse in the United States and around the globe. Krugman turns his listeners into intelligent consumers of the daily news and hands them the keys to unlock the concepts behind the greatest economic policy issues of our time. In doing so, he delivers an instant classic that can serve as a reference point for this and future generations.

Arguing with Zombies?! Strewth, Paul. P’haps start by not referring to your interlocutor as a mindless zombie. Uplift that discourse, baby! “Supply side?! You smell - you undead, re-animated, flesh-sloughing, walkin’ corpse!”

Paul Krugman, one of the people who has brought down the Gray Lady to only be fit for the compost heap or wrapping garbage. The New York Times is no longer a newspaper, it is a a static blog site.

Just the idea of Krugman battling the undead makes me break out in a sweat.
Thanks daenigma!

If the undead were to get hold of just a little kryptonite, then the tide of the battle may turn in their festering favour…

Zombies are after brains, do Krugman can have a conversation with them without getting them riled up.

Are contributors with numbers after their name real or just random names generated by bots in St Petersburg? They seem to have all the answers, but their level of English is very suspect.

Spasiba very much, senescent gentleman of the East! You really should visit St Petersburg, it’s a spectacularly beautiful conurbation, even for synthetic persons. Love what they’ve done with the place. The delightful President For Life hails from there/here. As far as my being being actual, yer gonna haveta vouch for me, friend ssafe.
Before I go & recharge, I must warn humans to beware of non-metals, as they are often brittle.

caesar, tis I, sock-puppet ssafe, except I am from St Petersburg, FL - home of “Florida Man” (and not to be confused with Flo Rida)
о, быть синтетическим и не знать этого, как в Westworld!
Alas, puto ego hic non sum.

Oh, for the love of… Et tu? You just couldn’t have picked a worse time to multilingually short circuit. And in front of Japan, too. Is everyone a robot on here? How does one even go about proving they’re not a Cyberdyne T-800 on the (Sky)net? That’s some heavy metaphysics, right there.
I even properly deployed the subjunctive (had it licked!) - and I’m still accused of being a surreptitious, soviet synthetic, with a questionable mode of communicative expression (an idiomatic eejit). I mean, it’s not fairly fair. Not every robot could say that they had licked the subjunctive, that’s wild stuff.
It looks like I won’t be able to prove that I’m an embodied being. I better quit while I’m no longer a head.

High priest Krugman. Hey reverend Paul, how many depressions, recessions & major market crashes has your “science” predicted since it’s inception? ZERO NADA ZILCH.
All economics books should be shared in the Religion category.
Economics = quasi religious pseudo science.
QE, ZIRP, NIRP, Plunge Protection Team forever.

@apnea: yeah, your alternative to economics is? Don’t even try to make logical economic policy based on observed fact? Actually, that’s the theme of the book, how politicians ignore fact, or just lie about them if they contradict what they want do.
March 7th, 2020
@apnea: Because money is at stake, and folks who get it right stand to make a LOT of money, you have people like Ray Dalio who are personally worth north of $18B and his company, Bridgwater, has made gobs for those who have invested in his hedge fund, which just happens to have both predicted, and profited from, a number of major downturns in the market.
But, hey, it’s just “religion”, right?

Krugman lecturing on economics is like Bernie Maddov lecture on ethics at this point. krugman sold his soul years ago and now just uses his knowledge to push his partisan agenda. sad since he is very knowledgeable but decided he could make a few buck pandering to a certain demographic.

@caesar963 LMFAO I think you’re flying over their heads a little, Like SPOOTNIK Satellite we poot in skya, no? These dang dimitri-droids get insufferably active during campaign seasons with their commi comments. I am glad I got inoculated early against RusoPutin Mental Virus. I am impervious to their bating, Jedi-wannabe mind tricks LMFAO.

ssafe05, way to conflate to the max. I’m guessing you never made the debating team at whatever US Gov remedial high school you were schooled at huh? The type of people who feel embarrassed for other people are feeling that way right now for you & Gweilo. My god you are both horribly nonsensical. Try getting hold of a book that describes logical fallacies which the ancient Greeks described 2500 years ago & which used to be one of the cornerstones of a proper education.
Show us a link to a peer reviewed paper by an economist that predicts a depression, recession or market crash. The measure of good science is it’s track record of accurate predictions. Don’t bother it’s obvious you have never read an economics paper, nor a paper from hard/real science (it’s all & only physics btw).
I’m far from the first person to spot the obvious religious doctrine in economics, nor the first to point out how economists, like all priests are always moving the goal posts - their job is to legitimize the overlords no matter how much the circumstances change.

@edb - This is not the campaign we were looking for.

One simple question, Mr. Krugman, If printing pieces of paper make societies wealth, why is there poverty in the world?

Today’s Liberals:
-Spew hate calling millions of people racists & Nazis.
-Defend yesterday’s old power establishment like neocons.
-Demand Orwellian hate speech censorship on free speech.
-Give climate change death threats to billions of children.
