Although the coup seemed a success at first, today it serves as a chilling lesson about the dangers of foreign intervention. In this book, veteran New York Times correspondent Stephen Kinzer gives the first full account of this fateful operation. His account is centered around an hour-by-hour reconstruction of the events of August 1953, and concludes with an assessment of the coup’s “haunting and terrible legacy.”

Great documentary with declassified CIA records in 2017 makes a great supplement to this read. YOU WILL BE STUNNED. It’s called ‘COUP 53′ I can’t say enough good things about, just go out n read the reviews yourself.

Coup 53 was a good documentary. I suspect I watched it a bit more critically than edbroadway, however. The documentary maker seemed to suggest Iran would be a thriving, liberal, democratic country today if it wasn’t for the Brits and Americans. Call me cynical, but I’m suspicious.
Anyway, they interview the author of this book.
