12 years ago, NASA researcher Peter Abbott disappeared while on a mission to study a meteor that had crashed on an uncharted island in the South Pacific.
His wife Claire Hamilton, a scientist herself, picked up the pieces of her broken life and started over.
Now a professor of astrobiology at the University of Washington, Claire has remarried and is raising 6-year-old twins with her husband Jack.
But her idyllic life is shattered once again when NASA shows up at Claire’s door with incredible news—Peter is alive, and they want her to join a mission to rescue him from the island.
And the most stunning revelation—it wasn’t a meteor that Peter had gone to study, as they had told her a dozen years ago, but an extraterrestrial artifact.
Torn between the love for her family and the prospect of being part of the most important discovery in human history, Claire struggles with the decision join the dangerous mission.
Meanwhile, sinister forces begin aligning to prevent her from rescuing Peter or uncovering the mystery of the alien object.
And as the danger mounts, she will make a shocking discovery, one with the potential to alter the course of her life—and of mankind—forever.

A curious combination of literary talent and woke propaganda, the former being subservient to the latter.

Woke aliens! They’re gonna cancel all of us, baby.
Fair play, you always come thru with the Woke-Lit, al.

If “woke” means being awake to the world and all who dwell on her, give it to me. Propaganda it isn’t, just a good story, with characters that inhabit the real world, not a red necked, isolationist right wing utopia

Woke aliens didn’t slaughter people in Buffalo yesterday …

@caesar963
To be more precise, I would say this particular book falls into “Woke-Lit pretending to be Sci-Fi” category.

Chapter 18
> She kept moving, now in the shadow of the fuselage, walking its perimeter. Another two bodies, also badly decomposed. As she completed the circuit around the chopper, her confusion grew; the nagging thought that had skittered through her mind in the woods was back. She approached the cabin door and poked her head inside. More carnage. Six more corpses, including the two pilots, still strapped in their seats. Footlockers and packs had been strewn about the cabin. She moved gingerly through the wreckage, mindful of the broken glass and twisted shears of sharpened metal. She checked the name patches on the bodies, the names unfamiliar to her. Kent, Davis, Simmons, Keaton, Ramirez, Ryland, Hankinson, Harris, Miller, Smith, and Brown…
> She was confused. As badly decomposed as these bodies were, the key fact was that they were still decomposing. These people had died recently. Murphy had told her there had been no missions to the island in what, two years? This helicopter had crashed much more recently than that. A week ago. Two at the most…
A few able-bodied survivors routinely visited the crash site on the island, where helicopter pilots and most passengers have died.
They saw the dead bodies, many still strapped to their seats, and they routinely scavenged supplies.
And guess what, no one bothered to bury the dead, to follow that important human tradition and ritual from time immemorial.
It used to be a common knowledge that under the circumstances even complete strangers deserve that, let alone fellow researchers and colleagues — apparently, not anymore.
Which effectively turns the protagonists in question into heartless, soulless marauders, and provides the object lesson in dehumanization to young readers “it’s okay to be a marauder, to disrespect and neglect dead comrades, who cares, they are dead anyway”.

For anyone interested, it is neither particularly woke, nor particularly sci-fi. There is a competent woman who notes from time to time that being a competent woman in STEM can be a crapshoot — which, y’know, any woman in STEM would agree with — and a story which *eventually* starts to care about an alien object, sort of.
It’s a romance novel, essentially. The most salient plot point is a sort of love triangle forced upon the main character. It’s written like a domestic thriller. If hearing about how important the protagonist’s kids are to her for hours on end sounds interesting to you, have fun.

Thanks for an objective description.

Wow, Thank God I’m so dim that all this “Woke” goes completely over my head. Otherwise I’d never be able to listen to Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy or almost any SciFi. I one of those stupid people that get an audiobook to listen to the story. I forget it’s to psychoanalyse the author’s intent to subvert my mind.
I should have guest that anyone, wanting to change the world obviously turns to Scifi as a medium. Did I not learn from all that counseling and therapy I had to endure after listening to Battlefield Earth.
Thanks for the Upload. PS Don’t metion the words Woke, Gay, Black or Jewish. Otherwise the cockroaches appear to spout their opinions. I mean, mainstream always checks out Pirate sites to change their beliefs and public opinion. Bush, Nixon, Trump. Dalia Lama and Satan himself are all avid members of torrent sites.

regarding alnilam’s problem with the book regarding Burial.
Soz, But I’d do the same as the MC. Burying decomposing bodies in such a situation is asking for some nasty germes and stuff. Safer to leave them be. They won’t complain about your inhumanity. 1st rule about survival. Is not to put yourself at risk.

When was the last time you were up close and personal with a decomposed body alnilam?
You wouldn’t go near it for all the crap tea in China.
Now. More importantly.
Someone mentioned a love triangle.
Do you mean that the main character and her hubby end up in a love triangle with an alien? :)
Makes me wonder. have astronauts discovered new positions in zero gravity, that are impossible on earth?
