An indispensable guide for exploring the literary, historical, and theological issues behind the Old Testament.
The purpose of studying the Old Testament is to understand God and his redemptive work more fully. However, this goal is complicated by the fact that it was transmitted through a very different language and culture from our own. A Survey of the Old Testament addresses background information, purpose, message, structure, and major themes of the Old Testament to help readers understand its message and relevance.
Chapters introducing each major section of the Old Testament are included, as are chapters dealing with issues of interpretation, hermeneutics, theology, geography, archaeology, history, formation of the Old Testament canon, and the Old Testament’s relationship to the New Testament. The fourth edition features a renewed focus on purpose, theology, and message while also providing a more succinct textbook less intimidating to students.

You must’ve caught sight of your uproarious reflection again. Or p’haps it’s merely the very idea of ideas & scholarship.
Thanks again, rmoor.

atheism has no valid basis, so atheists have only their fashionable skepticism.

chrisxiii- Of course atheism has a valid basis. The exact same valid basis as believers, in fact. Believers believe there is a god, and atheists don’t. It’s awfully simple, really. Also, atheists have something incredibly more valid- critical thinking skills.

“Also, atheists have something incredibly more valid- critical thinking skills.”
Without any exaggeration, that is something that the majority of atheists profoundly lack. Having observed them for 20 years.
What they DO have though, is mountains of useless knowledge, which creates (in them) the illusion of intelligence and rationality. But all I see is negative temperament, cynicism, lack of humanity towards those outside of their thinking club, lack of humility, and a lack of good fruit. The few accomplished ones are the exception to the rule.
