One of the great WWII classics:- on a par with Hans Fallada’s works (also severely under-rated).

waited 6 weeks to listen, bracing myself for something dark and depressing but it isn’t that at all — it’s uplifting.
If you’re on the fence, don’t be– it’s riveting.
