The second novel of Martin’s titanic Song of Ice and Fire saga (A Game of Thrones, 1996) begins with Princess Arya Stark fleeing her dead father’s capital of King’s Landing, disguised as a boy. It ends with the princess, now known as Weasel, having led the liberation of the accursed castle of Harrenhal. In between, her actions map the further course of a truly epic fantasy set in a world bedecked with 8000 years of history, beset by an imminent winter that will last 10 years and bedazzled by swords and spells wielded to devastating effect by the scrupulous and unscrupulous alike. Standout characters besides Arya include Queen Cersei, so lacking in morals that she becomes almost pitiable; the queen’s brother, the relentlessly ingenious dwarf Tyrion Lannister; and Arya’s brother, Prince Brandon, crippled except when he runs with the wolves in his dreams. The novel is notable particularly for the lived-in quality of its world, created through abundant detail that dramatically increases narrative length even as it aids suspension of disbelief; for the comparatively modest role of magic (although with one ambitious young woman raising a trio of dragons, that may change in future volumes); and for its magnificent action-filled climax, an amphibious assault on King’s Landing, now ruled by the evil Queen Cersei. Martin may not rival Tolkien or Robert Jordan, but he ranks with such accomplished medievalists of fantasy as Poul Anderson and Gordon Dickson. Here, he provides a banquet for fantasy lovers with large appetites?and this is only the second course of a repast with no end in sight.

above states “Martin may not rival Tolkien or Robert Jordan..” Wow, did this site really just say that? I know it’s heresy in nerd world to say anything that could remotely be taken as, knocking Tolkien off of his pedestal; but GRRM does just that and then some! And Robert Jordan!?! Sure he has some great stuff and then a lot of so so; but it’s just the same stuff you can get from Terry Brooks and Piers Anthony, Tad Williams,,all good genre writers but c’mon these are just genre writers that aren’t really breaking any molds, doing anything that complex to or great to be sucking people who normally don’t read fantasy into the fold. Tolkien did it, GRRM is doing it. Writers are a plentiful bunch, like baseball players. And like baseball ball players I don’t think we should be confusing dime a dozen good talent with absolute legends of the game. GRRM has reset the bar on what adult fantasy and the humanity of it can be,,in no less of a way than how Tolkien re-infused the genre or how Robert E Howard and Michael Moorecock were game changers as well.

The sound is tinny… like it was recorded from a microphone in front of a speaker.
Volume is low, and in more than one occasion, loud music replaced parts of the recording.
This is not worth the download… this has the same hash as another audiobook listed on the site.
I will be posting this comment to that entry as well.

The sound quality could be better but certainly will suffice. What won’t however is the way the chapters have been indexed. A significant amount of the chapters are mislabeled and are in the wrong chronological order, making it very confusing. Since there is no easy way (at least that I know of) to correct this by reordering the chapters, I would not recommend downloading this torrent, especially since there are much better alternatives.

@Vtron80 you posted in 2011 right before the last book released so perhaps you can be given some grace for not predicting that Martin has now been stuck in a Meereenese Knot of his own making for 14 years while Tolkien’s creation of so many languages alone without mentioning his work as a whole (which is far more expansive than ASOIAF) is enough to cement his skill, influence, & quality leagues beyond Martin.
