David Harvey tackles Marx’s notebooks that have spawned wide-ranging and raging controversies
When leading scholar of Marx, Roman Rosdolsky, first encountered the virtually unknown text of Marx’s Grundrisse—his preparatory work for his masterpiece Das Capital—in the 1950s in New York Public Library, he recognized it as “a work of fundamental importance,” but declared “its unusual form” and “obscure manner of expression, made it far from suitable for reaching a wide circle of readers.”
David Harvey’s Companion to Marx’s Grundrisse builds upon his widely acclaimed companions to the first and second volumes of Capital in a way that will reach as wide an audience as possible. Marx’s stated ambition for this text is to reveal “the exact development of the concept of capital as the fundamental concept of modern economics, just as capital itself is the foundation of bourgeois society.”
While respecting Marx’s desire to “bring out all the contradictions of bourgeois production, as well as the boundary where it drives beyond itself,” David Harvey also pithily illustrates the relevance of Marx’s text to understanding the troubled state of contemporary capitalism.

Thank you Thank yo Thank you. There just is not enough of this vital topic. How rebellious and brave of you to go for this cool world view.
In regards to china the Laobaixing must be too in love with their communist overlords to weigh in on this debate. They must be so enthralled with life that they never bother to write books or speak openly about how happy they are. The Laobaixing never seem to want to share with us there insight on the matter and it absolutely must be because things are just so great for them. Thank God we have intelligent people in this country to inform us on things they somehow inherently know, having zero first hand experience on the matter. How lucky we are that we have people who can set us straight and remind us not to believe our own lying eyes.
And it must be incredible to have such stanch advocates in the west who incidentally all live under various forms of democracies, letting people know just how great Communist dictatorships really are. This pro marxist sentiment is clearly a brave and cutting edge position. Rooted in deep understanding and progressive thinking. Thank you to both people for helping us stupid people see the truth.d

Columbia21 needs to not be spamming the same comment on everything he disagrees with. Inability to read outside your own biases is strongly linked to general ignorance of matters not easily grasped by the logic of capitalism. Because there are such things in this world, and as long as that is the case you will never be free of marxist theory. Dialectic, it’s in your morning coffee. It’s in your arguments with you family. It’s in the porn you consume. It’s in the memories you most hold dear. No getting away from it.
